The plastic cages did disturb me a bit. But where else would I have the opportunity to see a Black Mamba? It even looked fast. I don't think my husband could stand the idea of snakes in our house or backyard.

I made a late May foray into a southern Arizona climbing area once, and saw half a dozen Gila monsters that day. What nature was thinking in giving them day-glo orange coloring, I have no idea. Afterwards I learned they're worth at least $2,000 each on the black market. Temptation sucks. I grew up in Phoenix with the desert as my backyard. Many a time have I come across rattle snakes. And my intelligent brother brought home a gila monster that stayed the the backyard for awhile. They are VERY illegal to have in the state. But worth big bucks...

I took my daughter to the Reptile Zoo in Monroe yesturday. It was an experience! They have all sorts of cool reptiles from snakes, alligators, and turtles. My favorite was the soft-shell turtle - funny little nose. Did you know the Mamba snake is the most deadly snake and can travel up to 15 MPH? YIKESTER. Has anyone ever had an encounter with the Reptile Man? Or anything about reptiles to share?
