The corollary to this is, of course, getting reprimanded by the parents for imposing a little parenting on their precious little Bratleigh and/or Snotleigh. I was in a Barnes and Noble once and there was this kid sitting on the ground just beating the living daylights out of a hard cover book (i.e. using it like a hammer). Mom obviously wasn't doing anything about it, being so engrossed in what I'm hoping was a copy of "Parenting for Dummies", so I simply said "Hey, stop that". I went off into some other section and "Mom" tracked me down and started berating me for "disciplining" her child.....

So....how did you spend your 3 day weekend

Drove to Squamish, got in some climbs on Saturday. Sat around watching the rain come down on Sunday. Went to Whistler just to go do something and shook our heads in amazement at the people going snowboarding in the rain. Finally bailed and came back home. -
i think fern meant to say 'chicks dig cars', she may have just let her own bias influence her typing.

1. Nonlinearity. While really interesting when dealing with physics, incredibly annoying when applying it to your personal life. For example: dealing with any sort of government bureaucracy. 2. Groups of women/girls who hog the entire effin sidewalk and none of them have the courtesy to let you pass without stepping into the effin street and getting nailed by traffic. Even my female friends agree to this one. 3. The 'expectant mother' spot at the supermarket parking lot (what? now pregnancy is a handicap?)

I think it's a pretty sad sign of the times when someone has to ask when it's ok to ask a girl out....

I don't have one, but they are spiffy looking and way light http://www.greatoutdoorsdepot.com/hb-dyneema-helmet.html

When I was in college in Chicago, there was this one guy who used to be out in front of the admin building (the side facing the street, not the side facing the quads). Had to be the perfect beggar. He had this sorry ass Sad Sack look on his face and had somehow managed to train a kitten to sit on his shoulder (or maybe he used tap or glue or something but the kitten didn't seem to mind). Anyway, he never had to say a word. The girls would practically throw money at him. I wonder how many kittens he went through? What did he do with the cats when they got older?

Has anyone here made there own single walled tent? just curious. the wife is pretty good with sewing, as is mom.

I like this quote from some spokesman at the DOJ regarding terrorist warnings: "We don't do politics at the Justice Department."

i may be there, i may not. i guess i'll be making that decision the night before and hoping for the best.

So is it pointless of me to ask if anyone's going and needs someone? I'm beginning to think about asking for my $20 back. I didn't sign up to read trip reports and read Spray.

I just ignore them. Just because they're homeless doesn't mean you have to recognize their existence. I ignore all sorts of people all day. Why should I give money to people when it's well known that at least 70% of them have substance abuse problems? I'm not helping them, I'm hurting them. I once saw this guy with this huge wad of hundreds and twenties. I think he had more money that I did!

'sensationalized by the media'? wow, there's a surprise. who would a thunk it!?
-
Not really, but the best I heard once was from a friend of mine who, in reply to the question 'Spare change?' said 'Nope, thanks. Got plenty'

I don't see him being an apologist for The Enemy, I think he's rightfully upset that we present ourselves as somehow morally superior and yet don't live up to that ideal. I have a litany of complaints about my country and my countrymen, but I'm not saying I'd rather live in, say, Bangladesh. I feel that people that question the actions of government and its instruments are living up to what our founders had in mind. I feel that way regardless of whether their views are liberal or conservative. Not all of us who are unhappy with things, and would like to see them better, appreciate being called 'Haters of America'. And,yes, I have complaints about liberal *and* conservatives issues.

So, one cannot question the actions of the military because it is equivalent to hating the US? In what universe? That sounds more Orwellian than anything I remember reading in the Federalist Papers....
-
So, just so that I can understand things more clearly then, which order would you have been giving to the guards?

all the forecasts said rain, peoples messages said rain.
