Does Christopher Reeves ever get tired of life?

    Immortality

They don't grow them like that in the Pacific Northwest: Question: If you could live forever, would you and why? Answer: “I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever.” -- Miss Alabama in the 1994 Miss USA contest
  3. Interesting. Has the law been challenged? Not that I'm taking sides. So, if you're in a situation, for example, a bar and you get in a heated argument with someone, wouldn't you feel bodily threatened by the presence of a potentially deadly weapon in close proximity? It's clear that if he brandishes the weapon, takes it in hand, then his right has been forfeited in this instance. But, what if the other person leaves the gun holstered but makes a suggestive remark like, "I'll pistol whip ya, ya gaper!" That would constitute a material threat or assault. Seems like there's a fine line between legality and illegality. What if the other person has a reputation as a maniac and has been drinking heavily but is otherwise law-abiding?

    Semantics!

Depends on what the definition of 'is' is.
  7. Seems as a guidebook writer you'd want to consider your audience. Explicit sexual wording may be inappropriate for a general audience that includes children. You may not see it as such unless you have children. As for racial slurs, since I assume that the climbing public is predominantly middle class and white, you'd probably think it's all overblown. There just isn't a racial slur for a white middle class person that carries any sting. So, how could you empathize? I think many people think they're innocent because their intent was not specifically to hurt others. However, consider that you're using a loaded word, a word that carries a history of pain. Personally, I think that it's also on the offended party to nullify the word. Take, for instance, the use of the word, nigga. It is used within a particular group to show solidarity of identity. But, I don't know, I'm not in that social group, so what do I know?
  8. Don't know. It looks like Beast-Man understands him though.
  9. Is it wet or dry leprosy?
  10. Sphinx, go back to class and learn how to read. Then, go out in the real world and learn how to think. You're as dense as a lead weight.
  11. Yeah, Rollins may have been quoting Henry Miller. Have you heard his bit, 'Maturity' from 'A Rollins in the Wry'? I think he mentions a quote from Henry Miller and some lyrics from the Afghan Whigs. Have you heard that plagarism is the highest form of praise, not that Rollins does it, he attributes the source.
  12. Kiss my ass, Lummox. Capeesh, you fukin idiot.
  13. Lummox, I speak the truth. I'm not poking fun at you. I don't even know you. But why would you deliberately choose a name that means 'dumbshit' and not expect someone to call you on it?
  14. lummox n : an awkward stupid person synonyms for lummox: baboon, beast, birdbrain, birdie, blockhead, blunderbuss, blunderer, bonehead, boob, booby, bruiser, bull, chump, clod, clown, dodo, dolt, dum head, dumb ox, dumbo, dumdum, dummy, dunce, fathead, fool, galoot, goof, goon, halfwit, idiot, imbecile, klutz, lamebrain, loser, lout, lubber, lunkhead, meathead, missing link, moron, nincompoop, numbnuts, ox, palooka, sap, simpleton, slob, slouch Dude, you got to be an avatar for someone's alterego. You can't be for real.
  15. "I believe that today more than ever a book should be sought after even if it has only one great page in it. We must search for fragments, splinters, toenails, anything that has ore in it, anything that is capable of resuscitating the body and the soul." "The ones who don't do anything are always the ones who try to put you down." --Henry Rollins I admire this person's abilities--musician, thinker, writer. Too bad he didn't start rock climbing, he'd make a kick-ass climber.

  19. Ronald Reagan's administration had several neoconservatives including this one: He was nicknamed 'The Prince of Darkness' or sometimes called Darth Vader. Another neoconservative in Reagan's administration was Jeane Kirkpatrick. Interestingly, she was a Marxist during her early academic career. This 180 degree, political role reversal is not unusual. Hillary Clinton was a Goldwater Republican before she become an advocate of the New Left. I wonder what ideological revelation caused the conversion or was it purely political opportunism?
  20. Hmmm...yeah, Trango says that the device is rated at 24 kN. That's sturdy.
  21. Actually, it's not so much my concern as it is my climbing partners'. I still use my B-52. It's whether they lose faith. All I know is that a device that allows autoblocking while bringing up the second makes rope management much easier.
  22. Ok, I'm talking about using it in autoblock mode for belaying the second. The wear is on the part of the device where the anchor biner attaches. The situation is a multipitch rock climb, not a glacier climb. You loop the rope through and attach a braking carabiner (w/ oval cross-section) to right side (picture above). A carabiner goes through the left side to attach the belay device to a separate anchor. Do you see that the thickness of the anchor end is about 1 cm?
