  1. i see the real trask has returned from cabo and as usual greg is suffering from an inferiority complex.
  2. well i took a few turns at Alpental yesterday. oddly vacant in the AM. 'bout 8" of new but it was a little on the wet/heavy side. Better in the back country a little bit of new this AM. i'm gonna give a test drive in a few minutes.
  3. it's my mom....i can't say that! we just reached are usual "we shouldn't talk about this stuff" agreement. i think she took it personally last time i told her that she's an idiot.
  4. late night comedians would be in heaven if trask were pres!
  5. trask, i'm stunned i didn't think you had it in you. i couldn't agree. i admit to waivering on this topic but i find the UN inspectors remarks really compelling. i was about to post something of a similar nature. I had a conversation w/someone last night about the potential war and colin powell's address to the UN. She said that she thought it was persuasive even after i pointed out that the truth was stretched many times in that speech. She believes that we never know the whole truth and we should just shut up and trust the people in power. That terrifies me. How can you just blindly accept that the gov't is right? I sort of see the history/beginnings of this country rooted in the questioning of authority. The remarks by the UN inspectors furthers my belief that our president really needs to put forth more information and answer some of the questions being asked. Further, he needs to be willing to consider well supported opinions that differ from his or this really could turn into the desert vietnam.
  6. i think greg is just saying he's a dog person not a cat person
  7. i tell one or two people where i'm going and try and give them a rough idea of how well equipped i am to spend a couple extra days. they can use their judgement. i never tell my mother though...she'd have rangers waiting for me if i were an hour late! pick your contact wisely!
  8. hey wasn't it the french who saved our bacon in the revolutionary war?
  9. hey now! what's up w/the WSU hatred? that's just not cool

    Dogs?

Fejas, i respectfully disagree. Dogs should be leashed particularly on well travelled trails. I frequently encounter off-leash dogs on the trail. There's a few problems w/that for me. 1) most of the time they're freindly but quickly get underfoot. Nothin' like taken a nose dive b/c "buddy" wants to play 2) even nice dogs view a person running towards them differently than they view someone approaching slowly. (was nipped by a "friendly" lab once as i ran past) 3) they may be well behaved around other people but their reaction to my dog may not be good. What is so hard about using the leash?

    Dogs?

i used to think the doggie paw boots were silly until i thoughtless took my dogs out in the snow w/o them once. They both have their own now. Well worth the money. I can tell the difference. Even if they weren't whining they weren't happy dogs on that first trip. Now i found out yesterday that they make a doggie tent. ... I don't love them that much!

    Turn on Ch. 5

come on...doesn't it scare anybody but me that our choices on TV the other night were michael jackson, michael jackson or joe shmillionaire?
  14. hey that's just mean! i was doing just fine now i see that and i think i need to take the afternoon off!
  15. It IS a violation of the doctor's rights. Many things are done in the name of religion that, upon reflection, have no tie to said religion's tenets. Examples include the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition. In this example, one would recall the Seventh Commandment which state "Thou shalt not murder." There are caveats to this which Dwayner is probably better equipped to comment on, such as war, self-defense, etc. it seems that a lot of bad things have been done in the name of religion. i have no problem w/these things being punished to an extra measure (i.e. hate crimes) Religion is a powerful force in this country. If it takes a little extra something to make people think twice about acting poorly based on those beliefs then so be it. if it takes and extra measure of punishment to protect those of us not of the christian majority, then so be it. i feel the same way regarding racially motivated crimes. It's one thing to assault someone in a fit of rage it's entirely another to select someone b/c of their ethnicity or religion and hurt them b/c of it. As far as the 10 commandments go, most of them are good principles to live by personally and as a society but someone's gotta enforce a few those. Might as well be the laws/courts of our society. The other point regarding the 10 commandments is that all of the other major religions i know of frown on murder etc. as well. Their principles aren't listed as "10 commandments" but most of them are still there in most religions.

    Girl Stuff

very true minx. In order to get any answers to woman related questions thus far I have foun a privet message to a woman on this bbs is far more helpful that offering it up to the male population at large. maybe i'm too butch but there aren't a lot of climbing issues specific to women. real women's issues i wouldn't really expect to deal w/on this board. the few women's climbing issues that exist shouldn't be relegated to some girls forum...blug!

    Girl Stuff

just a little thought. are the percentages on this board any different from the climbing community as a whole? what would we talk about on a women's forum that relates in anyway to climbing? gear? post on gear critic? women's issues? spray. you can't ban the men from a women's forum so how is it any different than any of the other's on this board?
  19. i agree w/your last post whole heartedly. H/e, how is that the murder of an abortion doctor by a christian fundamentalist isn't a violation of that doctor's rights. I'm not trying to start the abortion debate. This example takes out the issue of race and thus simplifies it.
  20. greg, as someone who questions many aspects of christianity; to the point of disassociating myself from any organized faction of it; I find the idea protecting people from religious persecution to be very important. I like my nose just where it is. My glasses need to perch on something! ...maybe a monacle...
  21. You're a woman, what do you expect? MidEast stabilization may not be any of our business, but since it is in the best interest of some of our prime allies (Israel & Turkey, to name two) we have a stake in it. consistency, it's all about consistency. isn't it time we untangle some of our relationships? It may be in their best interest but is it really in OURS?
  22. greg, that is NOT going to happen. For someone w/my belief structure that would be cutting off my nose to spite my face.
  23. greg, you are absolutely correct. my bad. trying to keep it simple. but i still find your position unsettling.
  24. admirably consistent...g) scares me. is that really any of our business? (mideast stabilization)
  25. greg, let me keep this simple for you. Not everyone in this country is a christian. they shouldn't get the shaft b/c of that regardless of your religious beliefs. yes my earlier post was a gross oversimplification but i don't have all day to write a bloody novel to cover all the nuances. Thought you were bright enough to get the point.
