  1. The lofty Mt. Hadley Delta. I hear that the approach was a bitch, and costly too.

Now you're starting to sound like Necro.
  3. Wrlwind, if you are thinking we should repeal Prohibition, that was done already. Maybe what we need now is an amendment protecting the right to smoke pot.

Better become familiar with the following trade names. These two neuraminidase inhibitors are about the only treatments available. I'm not sure about amantadine for Type A. Is avian flu Type A or Type B or neither? Relenza and Tamiflu The answer is yes, it's type A. Reference
  5. The same thing happened to mine. A wire came loose. I took it back to REI for a replacement. The replacement has an improved wire connection along with some additional functionality. There are now three intensity settings and a flashing mode.
  6. From the same site, dykes on a bike:
  7. My favorite definition of defenestration: 5. The act of completely removing Micro$oft Windows from a PC in favor of a better OS (typically Linux).

Here's the latest research which suggests that BSE is more infective in humans than was previously thought. Some animals may be asymptomatic carriers.
  9. From talking to Rep. Inslee, I got the impression that the Dems were just trying to preserve past gains by stopping GOP bills any way they can. It is sort of like, "we can't go forward, but maybe we can at least avoid going backward".
  10. Stranded Stranded on a toilet bowl Stranded Stranded Stranded on a toilet bowl What do you do when you're stranded And there ain't nothing on the roll? To prove you're a man You must wipe it with your hand Stranded Stranded on a toilet bowl !
  11. Of course we are interested! Let's hear more about it. I do know there is a lot of underused climbing areas on the other side of the river. Some are on private property or require passage across private property for access.
  12. He ought to know; if I remember correctly Thomas Payne WAS rather a scoundrel until he got lucky with a few printed broadsides. Payne was a British ne'er do well who emigrated to America only one year before he wrote the pamphlet Common Sense.
  13. Much of what the EPA and the Forest Service are doing are a result of appointments and executive directives, not legislation. Bush has actually not been able to get as many laws passed as you would expect, given the Republican majority in Congress.
  14. I think HRoark has done a really nice job with this thread. He wants to keep it on track.
  15. Hey, dryad. Bon Voyage! Be sure to post from every exotic location, al la Dwayner (I'm in Bankok, and I'm drunk!).
  16. Wealth and money are created all the time by the Federal Reserve Bank. Business activity amplifies every dollar, each time it changes hands.
  17. So if trask really were running for president, what would his platform be?
  18. TRASK FOR PRESIDENT!
  19. Depends on what your definition of "destroy" is. What happens when your country stops producing job? How about when it has to print money because it doesn't collect enough taxes to pay for what it spends? When people lose confidence in the office of the president because of lies, what then. When 40 years of environmental protection begin dying the death of a thousand cuts, is that destroying the country? Maybe destroy is too strong a word. How about "savaged" or "battered"?
  20. Is anyone else wondering where is JayB, J_B, Fairweather, sexual_chocolate and mattp? This should be mother's milk to them.
  21. The following quote is attributed to the Frenchman, Voltaire, "I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." That is a very patriotic thing to say because he is standing for a principle, that of free speech. When the Bush Administration decided it didn't like what former Ambassador Wilson said it decided to leak the identity of his wife, a CIA operative. That is not patriotism. That is treason.
  22. What about these commonalities: All men are created equal. All men have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  23. To the extent that people disagree on what is in the best interest of the country, then yes, patriotic acts vary. In his warped mind, Timothy McVeigh thought he was a patriot by bombing the Federal Building in Oklahoma City. With regard to the Constitution it is important to consider the intent of the Founding Fathers, but also to realize that it is a "living document". The idea that one document could countenance every possibility into the infinite future seems quite ludicrous to me.
  24. I think it is unfortunate that there are those that would have you believe that to be a patriot one must support the government unconditionally. I strongly disagree with this. A patriot acts in what he or she believes to be in the best interest of the country. These acts may actually be against his or her self-interest. Case in point: The ACLU recently acted in behalf of Rush Limbaugh's privacy rights to his medical information. Rush Limbaugh is no friend of the ACLU, but they defended him because they defend the Bill of Rights which benefits all people. This was a patriotic act.
  25. I wonder if masks will work as well for lions as for tigers? "Masks have also helped save lives. Tigers generally stalk and attack from behind. Human face masks worn on the back of the head confuse them. Several have been seen following people but not pressing an attack. In 1987 when the masks were introduced, 30 were killed, but no-one wearing a mask (Man-eaters and Masks. Cat News 11, 1989, p. 12). Since then it has become compulsory to wear a mask and only one has been attacked from the side." Tiger, tiger, burning bright.
