A fertility doctor claims he has implanted a cloned human embryo into a woman. If successful, the woman would give birth to a clone of her husband. I think Dr. Zavos is bluffing.

Let's just bury the hatchet.

Hope you get nothing but tailwinds.

I did not take Thinker's post as good-natured humor. My previous post had been an attempt to correct some misinformation concerning the Mountaineers. Fenderfour was either intentionally (as a troll) or unintentionally confusing Basic Climbs with Intermediate Climbs. I regard PM's as confidences (even though the site managers can access them). To be mocked with my own PM is something I consider dishonorable, not playful. I have received all sorts of PMs, many of which I would love to share with the rest of you, but I do not out of respect for the sender (especially trask). Eric8, you can verify for yourself that it is rare for me to go off on someone. Your comment is specious on its face.

best of cc.com Sat, June 30, 1 day ascent Rainier
catbirdseat replied to Pencil_Pusher's topic in Mount Rainier NP
A great post. Last winter on a climb with Marek, we picked up a third guy, named Dave at Muir Hut. About all we knew about him was that he was fast, because we had watched him ascend the Muir Snowfield. He turned out to be a great partner. -
Thank you for that. *vomicon*

Okay, Dave, no more PM's. I'll just post right here. You suck. The next time I see you at Pub Club, I say it to your face.

So post something on topic, marylou. Don't you think Pickering is a great choice? By being a Federal judge, he will be available to be appointed to the Supreme Court when the time comes, so he and Chief Justice Renquist can work together to overturn Roe versus Wade. Isn't that just swell?

CC.com has exceeded it's poo thread quota for the week.

I was wondering the same thing.

Macintoshes are so suck. You gotta believe me when I tell you I had carriage returns between paragraphs. They don't show.

I would say he is a racist. Long known as an opponent of the Equal Rights Amendment. Chaired the Human Rights and Responsibilities Subcommittee of the Republican Party Platform Committee that approved a plank in the party platform protesting the Supreme Court's decision in Roe and calling for a constitutional amendment to ban abortion. While serving in the Mississippi Senate, Pickering voted for a resolution calling for a constitutional convention to propose an amendment to ban abortion. He voted against state funding for family planning. While Pickering was president of the Mississippi Baptist Convention, the organization adopted a resolution calling for legislation to ban abortion except to save the life of the mother. As a law student, Pickering wrote a law review article suggesting ways to amend the state's miscegenation statute (interracial marriage) to ensure it would be found constitutional. Nine years later, the Mississippi legislature followed Pickering's recommendations and amended the statute. During Pickering's district court confirmation hearing, he swore under oath that he had no interaction with the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission, a state-funded agency established after Brown v. Board of Education to oppose integration efforts. However, a commission investigator wrote a memo in 1972 indicating that Pickering "requested to be advised of developments" regarding some of the commission's investigations. In 1993, Pickering published an opinion portraying the "one-person, one-vote" doctrine as "obtrusive." As a state senator, Pickering repeatedly voted against measures that would expand electoral opportunities for African Americans after passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965. Pickering used identical language in his opinions in the racial discrimination cases Seeley v. City of Hattiesburg and Johnson v. South Mississippi Home Health, describing each as having "all the hallmarks of a case ... filed simply because an adverse employment decision is made in regard to a protected minority." Pickering wrote approximately 1,100 opinions during his 11 years as district judge and published fewer than 100. When the Senate Judiciary Committee asked him for the unpublished decisions, Pickering provided approximately 600 and indicated that the rest were unavailable. I'm not sure what you just said, but it sounds deep, man.

If you're Canadian, you better like canola oil. You all are practically swimming in it up there.

It's one thing to think of the effect of flu on the population in the abstract, but yet another when it comes to you as an individual. We are accustomed to thinking of the flu as something that kills only the very young and very old. When the Spanish Flu hit in 1918, there was no discrimination by age. Frequently, the most healthy and fit were the ones that died. We're talking about 18-20 year old soldiers in top physical condition.

I had heard that all his Everest West Ridge slides were stolen when he was in Brazil a couple of years ago. Hopefully he has been able to restore his collection.

In today's news. Here's the deal in a nutshell. Avian flu spreads between chickens and from chickens to humans but not between humans. If a human happens to be infected with human flu and at the same time gets infected with avian flu, the genes can recombine. The resulting strain could then spread between humans but would be much more virulent, that is kill a higher percentage of those it infects. That would be very bad. No one knows when it will happen, but when it does let's hope they have a vaccine for it.

I'll bet they don't try that again.
