  1. I guess I'll try to tackle this one. First of all nowhere does "science" say that you can't create something out of nothing. Modern cosmology theories seem to indicate that that is exactly what happened to create the Big Bang. If matter and antimatter can annihilate each other to nothingness, so too might they be created out of nothingness. Even if no good theory existed to explain the creation of matter, it does not prove that a creationist theory is better. Creationists say God created matter, but don't worry about explaining where God came from. Oh and regarding "simplizing". I think the word you are after is simplify.
  2. I have to make a correction. It was the north face that was climbed, not the south face. We approached from the south but summited on the north side. The map is correct, the text was incorrect. My apologies.
  3. This is in case your belay loop should break? I have to do that since I use a bod harness.
  4. Cluck, "Rime ice and clouds on Mt. Hood" is a really cool picture. The ice and clouds appear to be continuous.
  5. No open flames, please.
  6. So if you climb on the 20th, do you turn into a pumpkin the minute the equinox occurs? I know why you care, Colin. The 20th falls on a Saturday. You're planning a first winter ascent on that day, aren't you?
  7. So I take it then you use Dru's manly man arm hook method on rappel? I can think of at least one fellow who might be alive today had he used a personal anchor while rappelling.
  8. There is a reason why we still use webbing for slings instead of perlon. It's cheaper and lighter. Although iceclimbers use it because it's better for vee threads. 9/16" climbspec 11.3kN 7.9g/ft $0.22/ft 6 mm perlon 8.0 kN 7.0 g/ft $0.35/ft 7 mm perlon 10.8 kN 9.1 g/ft $0.40/ft
  9. like your disbelief was totally suspended up until that point? Apparently so.
  10. I just think it is interesting that HRoark has chosen his choicest insults for CBS, who has been the most respectful of those with religious inclinations.
  11. Explain something to me. Did Gollum ever put on the ring? When he gets it from Frodo in the volcano he holds it but never puts it on. What prevents him from doing so?
  12. That's JUST a theory.
  13. Thank you Dru, I did not know that.
  14. Teach creationism if you want. Just don't teach it in science class and don't call it "science", because it is not.
  15. Cut tax and spend. Why don't we all just quit our jobs and then max out our credit cards?
  16. Notice the snaps. Along with the star, it shows that it was all planned carefully. You don't rip leather that easily. It's kind of funny how all the network executives have to make public shows of righteous indignation, when privately they had to be ecstatic about the whole thing.
  17. Got a link to the you-know-what?
  18. Billy, I know your are making a joke. It has nothing to do with the anchor. You can break your tie-in or your harness, or strain your back.
  19. Absolutely, if you are really mad, you can always use a gun you already own.
  20. Views and theories are not equivalent. A view is a belief. Beliefs are mental constructs that are not supported by observations in the physical world. They are supported by readings and testimony of other people who hold similar beliefs.
  21. Oh man, they were trying to milk tears at the end with the farewells. They went on and on. That ruined it for me.
  22. If you are using a spectra daisy, or any other sort of sling, you had better not have much slack in it, because even a small slip will result in a large shock load on it.
  23. Creation is not theory because it is untestable. If you want to teach it, don't teach it in science class. Teach it in social studies class.
  24. catbirdseat

    GEEK!

    That would be Johnny 2.0.1.
  25. A resounding NO. Creationism is not science because none of it can be tested by observation or experimentation.
