  1. I believe that 1995 is when Europe incurred large costs related to formation of the European Union. Also, they have been cutting back on social spending, just as we have.
  2. How is that? Most are either 7 or 8kN and only the D's achieve 9kN. That's not a lot of difference.
  3. I know it's fashionable to knock Exit 38, but hey, it beats climbing in the gym on a pleasant weekday evening.
  4. Nice post, Brad. Great attitude.
  5. If you go too late in the year (late June or July), the approach over the Coleman/Roosevelt Glaciers becomes more circuitous, I am told.
  6. You don't want to burn that stuff. It's a hassle and it will be stinky. I suggest that you donate the clothing to Deseret Industries or some other charity. That way something good will come out of it. Anything they can't sell they will recycle for the fiber.
  7. I think that route #4 between Absolutely Nothing and Blockhead is called Some Drugs. There is a trick to it such that if you know it, the crux isn't hard at all. There is a place where you need to put your foot behind you against an opposing face, or something like that. The fun is in figuring it out. When it seems hard, start thinking creatively. BTW, you're supposted to put the phrase "We did" before all the route names.
  8. Hmmm, there are those who would argue that the words "excellence" and "Sport Climbing" don't belong in the same sentence.
  9. If you even want to find out if GregW is following a thread, just throw out the phrase "Second Amendment", and you'll get your answer in a New York minute.
  10. I agree, which is why when I go to a Mariners game I park a good mile away, outside the traffic control zone. Even with the greater walking distance, I can be home much faster than if I had parked right next to the stadium.
  11. Annabelle's journal reads like a soap opera. The incongruity between what she is doing and what she is thinking is quite bizarre. She's fretting like some trophy wife in Malibu. It's wierd.
  12. Some things you just don't joke about and that's one of them.
  13. My turn to rant. I was out for a run today and crossing at a three-way interestion in the cross walk at a moderate run. A woman in a black SUV is coming way too fast. "Hey!", yelled. I slow down to avoid getting run over and yell at the top of my voice, "HEY!!!", as she blows the stop sign at 25 mph. She looks at me with a shocked look on her face and I give her the stink eye.
  14. This is almost word for word the same exact troll you have used in the past.

  17. It would be a lot easier if, in addition to being unemployed, one were (a) young, and (b) celibate.
  18. It is the middle of five routes on We Did Rock. It used to appear as 5.8 in an earlier guidebook, but somehow got upgraded. The other four routes are definitely harder, especially Blockhead on the far right, which I would give a 5.9+ or a 5.10a- if such a thing existed.

Damn, three years ago I had a good job. The economy was humming along. We were at peace. There was no war, no draft. The air and water were cleaner than they ever were. The arabs and Israelis were on the virge of peace. America was admired and respected around the world. How could one man fuck everything up in so short a time?

  21. This is one heck of an anal-retentive thread.
  22. Okay, you knuckleheads- the topo, courtesy of colin:
  23. The following information is from Mark Glidden who put up one of the new routes last year.--catbird
  24. If he had been in the lane ahead of you and needed to slow for a turn, you would have had to yield. However, he was changing lanes. A vehicle changing lanes must yield to another vehicle already in that lane. When changing lanes he should have allowed for a reasonable amount of time for you to respond before slowing for the turn. When I'm riding a bike, I usually go by the tonnage rule: everything else is bigger and can kill me so everything else get's the right of way.
  25. Yep, it's glacier, but just because it wasn't drawn on the topo, doesn't mean it wasn't there when the topo was made.
