  1. HEY I acknowledged that it's a selfish viewpoint. But your analogy is bunk. Who the hell is gonna bother bolting remote choss in the North Cascades? I sure hope no one. The skiing doesn't do any damage and it doesn't leave anything permanently altered; it's just "breaking the law". I believe in selective practice of civil disobedience. Now can we get Pope to post that spectacular Via Ferrata picture here or what?
  2. But it's not a private land owner, it's the gubbamint. You have a point, but I don't care. Personally, access to St Helens doesn't matter much to me and I'd sure like to see lotsa cool crater pics. But that's my selfish viewpoint.
  3. How does it affect access, considering it is prohibited to ski there regardless? It can't make it any worse. Isn't the whole mountain 'off limits' at the moment too? So are you saying it could hypothetically affect access in the future when the mountain is less active? I think it's a cool shot. I'd be interested to know if, and exactly where, they truly skied into the crater. I know of some people who skied it, but they don't want to 'out' themselves. BE VERY AFRAID OF THE MAN! Ha ha ha Blame it on the snowmobilers.
  4. Hell yeah.
  5. RuMR I can't believe you're referencing a SKIER in your insult?! Hey Chaps WHY do you GIVE A FUCK?
  6. But equally rarely do they rue it.
  7. Sorry to hear it. Rene Crawshaw, the other skier mentioned, is the one with whom he skied the North Ridge on Baker.
  8. I remember Alpine Select called DNB Bear TD+.
  9. Ooh they look ominous today: Plus there's a dusting of FRESH snow.
  10. Other People's Politics?
  11. No doubt Dave, clearly I wasn't thinking. Plus with that $30 I save I'm just gonna get drunk, which can't be good either. I rescind my opinions. MT RAINIER is THE SHIT. Everybody come to Washington and pay whatever exorbitant fees they invent for shitters, signs, and whatever else is necessary to KEEP THE WILDERNESS WILD and help US enjoy OUR park.
  12. Except, for instance, Mt Baker, which features all Mt Rainier's positive attributes and many more, less altitude, and no bothersome bureaucracy.
  13. Mt Rainier's just a big heap of crap anyway. Go to Mt Baker; it's free, the skiing and weather are much better, and there are stellar views of Mt Shuksan and the North Cascades the likes of which can't be found on Mt Rainier.
  14. Speaking of unworthy books, I just cracked Last of the Mohicans last night to where I left it 2/3 finished nearly a year ago. It reread the page and quickly decided it just wasn't worth it.
  15. Why do you care that a ranger took issue with your machete and fire? Isn't that her job? Who gives a rat's ass? You had your spray. Everyone congratulates you. It's just a little criticism; take it like a man.
  16. Elements of Style Had to give that to the FatBoy, hoping his trip reports might quit making me grimace. There has been a marked improvement.
  17. Orwell's work may be more realistic and scary, but I found Brave New World a much more satisfying read.
  18. ahh buzz off ya goat fokker... Houston, we have contact! Nice work MisterE.
  19. Where the hell is the angry climber guy? He wasn't at Index yesterday. But it's very nearly time for this...
  20. What/where is Marginal Karma? Leading BoC without the stop definitely adds the sporty pump.
  21. I believe you that the bolts on Washboard are new, because they sure didn't look old skool. Does anyone know about the location of them relative to 1st ascent?
  22. I love Breakfast of Champions. It was dry yesterday too.
  23. I found the same situation at Peshastin about a month ago Lowell. We had it all to ourselves; it was really nice. I had an exquisite head trip leading Washboard and thinking about Pat Timson bolting that on lead! As for yesterday: Michelle, Ross and I saw only one party of two all afternoon at Index. So Peshastin wasn't the only secret Sunday stash! (And the granite was as great as ever...)
