I saw this the other day. Pretty sweet movie, I give it . Denzel kicked ass. Plenty of action for the fans of theatrical violence, but a touching story ta'boot.

From my understanding, this has been standing policy for quite some time. You know, junior, the world of policy, politics, and goverment didn't start the day after your testicles dropped. Looks like Jim beat me to it with the explanation of where this policy came from. Not surprising, the moron's dad instituted it. Another fine leader! My point remains, photos like this are damaging to the moron in chief and it's in his best interest to hide them, just like every other bad story coming out of that shithole he created.

Once again, after reprimanding me for thinking I know what the framers of the constitution intended, do you do the very same thing. Give it up and address my point. "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state" Please tell me how you and your NRA buddies represent a well regulated militia and how you provide any security for the state? You don't. And don't give me the bullshit about the framers intended for an armed populace to offset the power of a national military. Do you honestly think any sort of armed populace is going to even come close to offsetting what the U.S. Military is there for?

Hell yeah, so would I. Looks like you've conceded the argument to me. Anyway, It's time for bed.

Where is the namecalling? Sorry, I called you smart guy, that was rather wiseass, I apologize. if you honestly think that site you posted from is a legitimate news source, I can't help you there. Slowly but surely the republican party is going to begin distancing themselves from the NRA. The republican party gets a good deal of it's support from suburban upper middle class families. Do you really think the majority of these people support loose gun laws? Nope, not at all. I may not agree with most republicans, but they aren't dumb. They read the same polls everybody else does and they know that sooner or later buckling under to the NRA is going to cost them more than it gains them. People are sick of worrying about sending their children to school for fear of a schoolyard shooting, or any other number of horrible things that have happened lately involving guns. The wheels of the machine are slowly turning. I was happy to see that the senate recently voted down immunity for gun manufactuers and rouge dealers. It was helped along by fairly strong republican support.

Oh, and for those you wondering earlier if Britney Spears was a republican or not, she is on the NRA's blacklist for being "anti-gun", just as the NEA (National Education Association), NAACP, NOW (national organization of women), AFL-CIO, the league of women voters, AARP (american association of retired persons). Clearly these are all terrorist liberal communist extremist organizations looking to infringe on our civil rights!

Excuse me, I said violent crime and I should have specified deaths due to handguns. "Advocates of less gun control in the U.S. say the drop in gun murder rates was more than offset by the overall victimization increase." What an idiotic stance. Clearly more gun deaths is a good price to pay to lower overall violent crime rates by .8%. Also, what kind of crap source is this?? WorldNetDaily? HAHAHAH. Check out the home page....it's a rightwing propoganda site, man. Every ad on the front page is for some sort of right wing book. Try citing real facts. Better yet, face the fact that I have presented real arguments and you have skirted every one with typical regurgitated NRA crap. You guys can fight this all you want, but slowly and surely our society is getting smarter. We're getting sick of the NRA and it's crap, and you're fighting a losing battle. It may not be next year, or 10 years from now, but we'll have guns outlawed or severly restricted sooner or later.

Yup, below is the story of a true coward. We need a real american hero leading us. A man who can cash in connections to get a stint in the texas air guard, all the while snorting coke and defending the skies of texas from the threat of invasion from oklahoma. "On Feb. 28, 1969, Kerry’s craft and two other boats came under heavy fire from the riverbanks. Kerry ordered his units to turn into the ambush and sent men ashore after the enemy. According to the records, an enemy soldier holding a loaded rocket launcher sprang up within 10 feet of Kerry’s boat and fled. Kerry leapt ashore, chased and killed the man. Kerry and his men chased or killed all enemy soldiers in the area and returned to the boat only to come under fire from the opposite bank as they began to pull away. Kerry again beached his boat and led a party ashore in pursuit, and they successfully silenced the shooting. Later, with the boats again under fire, Kerry initiated a heavy response that killed 10 Viet Cong and wounded another with no casualties to his own men. He won the Silver Star “for gallantry and intrepidity in action” that day. Two weeks later, Kerry’s role in another firefight earned a Bronze Star for heroic achievement and the third Purple Heart that would result in his reassignment out of Vietnam. Kerry was commanding one of five boats on patrol on March 13, 1969, when two mines detonated almost simultaneously near Kerry’s craft. Shrapnel hit Kerry’s buttocks and his right arm bled from contusions, but he rescued a boatmate who had been thrown overboard by the blast and was under sniper fire from both banks. Kerry then directed his crew to return to the other damaged craft and tow it to safety. "

Next time try... "The 2nd amendment directly speaks to the right to bear arms for the maintenance of a militia to protect the state " Misquoting...a powerful argument indeed. You guys prove my points for me. You have no argument and you know it. It's bad law. Just like prohibition didn't work and we needed to pass another amendment to repeal it, it's time to get rid of the 2nd. It's outdated and ridiculous. Our country suffers more handgun violence than the rest of the civilized world combined. Australia's violent crime rate(and esp. murder rate) has plummeted since guns were outlawed. As Wesley Clark said (paraphrased) "if you like guns, join the army, we've got them". Another perfectly reasonable thing to do is move to a 2nd or 3rd world country. You'll find plenty of other folks interested in arming themselves and shooting stuff.

I didn't say they were part of the bill of rights, smart guy. slavery was abolished and the woman's right to vote were both "granted" with constitutional amendments. Why do you think we have the amendment system? Yeah, it's to update our constitution as we see fit. Address my argument, rather than skirting it please. The 2nd amendment directly speaks to the right to bear arms for the maintenance of a militia to protect the state. You can't deny that it says that so you come up with your crap arguments about how it's a "tool" you have the right to own. If you can own a gun why can't I own a rocket launcher?

So I'm watching Bravo right now and this movie is on. I had never heard it before, but apparently it's a classic about the vietnam war from 1978. Right as I turned it on the scene featured the main actors driving through a beautiful mountain range with large glaciers. I searched for information about the film and, sure enough, it was filmed in north cascades national park. Has anybody here seen this movie?

What the hell is this supposed to mean? You dont choose to address my point at all. Laws become outdated and times change. There was a time when slavery existed within the law and women weren't allowed to vote. The 2nd amendment existed to give the people the right to act as a milita and defend the state. It says it right in the amendment! Why do you 2nd amendment supporters simply choose to ignore this fact? Nowhere does it say "to defend against neighbors" or "to rob a bank" or "to facilitate schoolyard shootings"

I do admire this guy. Yes, the war is bullshit. Yes, our president is a worthless pile of dogshit. The fact remains that this guy wanted to join the army rangers. Why? Who knows, maybe to serve with his brother, maybe to serve his country, or maybe just because he thought it would be a really awesome way to spend his life. Does it matter? No, I dont think so. I think it's pretty neat that he did what he wanted to do rather than make millions like he could have. I'm sure a lot of folks thought he was crazy for turning down that sort of money, but I feel exactly the opposite. The crazy man is the one who pushes aside his desires to conform to the materialistic society in which we iive and do nothing more than seek money and goods. Call him a patriot, or a hero, or whatever you want, but above all he followed his path and not the path society told him to take. to Pat Tillman.

For those unfamiliar with the actual wording of the 2nd amendment: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The NRA, and their propoganda machine like to concentrate on this phrase of the 2nd amendment: "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" This is the line we typical see regurgitated by Greg et al. Not coincidentally, they don't often mention the line that comes before that, giving context to the amendment as a whole: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state" Could someone please explain to me how a populous armed against **eachother** is "well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state"?? That's right, it's not. We have the advantage of a large and powerful army that provides for the security of the state. The 2nd amendment has been outdated since shortly after the war of 1812. This isn't switzerland, we aren't a militia state, and the NRA and gun suporters have twisted the intent of the 2nd amendment for far too long. Now; others in this epic thread have argued that the constitution, in no way, should be taken for anything more than it's absolute wording, and never interpreted against a modern context to uphold the intent of our forefathers. I present the fact that inumerable cases can be presented where the orignal literal law is not followed, but the intent is preserved and the spirit of the law upheld. One such case is amendment 6 in the bill of rights: "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense." Can anyone find the phrase in this amendment that is not unilaterally followed today? "...by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed..." Cases can be moved to other districts in today's judicial system. Federal trials can be moved from one state to another. Why? Because the issue of media exposure that exists in the 20th and 21st century did not exist in 1791. The needs to preserve the guarantee of a fair and consistent trial by jury have changed between 1791 and 2004. The needs required to defend the state have also changed between 1791 and 2004 and it's time the law reflected this.

The current situation in the middle east is the perfectly explainable result of draggig a culture out of the dark ages and into the modern world overnight. What took Europe nearly a thousand years was done in less than a hundred in the middle east.

I've been kind of torn on this one. On one hand I believe in freedom of information, and the reason this fucked up administration wants to hide this is the same reason it wants to hide all the other bad news about this war. On the other hand, I definitely see that families could be hurt by this sort of thing.

"I'd have several JHPs bouncing around in your chest cavity before you could get that fucker loaded." Congragulations, you are a big man. Do you standing looking at the mirror repeating john wayne lines to entertain yourself? Greg, I just want to know what happened earlier in your life that made you so bitter towards everything?

REI Down Bags -- Kilo Plus +0 or REI El +10?

Used my basic bivy sack and my down coat over my midsection. Since I generally carry some sort of insulated jacket, might as well it to sleep too -
REI Down Bags -- Kilo Plus +0 or REI El +10?

WM mountaineering highlite. 16oz and 35degrees. I used it on my 4 day inspiration-forbidden tour the other two, including a 7600 bivy and an 8300 foot bivy. With clothes I was comfy warm. Downside is they are pricey once you start going with the ultralight fabrics and super-loft down. If you are doing more summer than winter stuff, I'd go with a superlight back then get some nice synth big bag on sale for winter stuff. -
Do you realize how much a car puts off in terms of pollution compared to a snow-mo? It is on the order of hundreds, if not thousands of times. Not to mention the giant ass rig (always a truck...which doesn't have to meet air quality standards as low as cars) you have to haul it up there. Just worth pointing out... I dont think anybody was arguing to eliminate snow-mos, just keep them out of the alpine. The impact a climber (or even lots of them) put on the alpine environment is tiny compared to snow-mos.

Great links Fairweather. It's kind of hard to look at that stuff and not be sad The White Chuck glacier is one I have noticed personally. Just as Matt mentioned, the entire bottom basin looks like the moon; totally barren. I made the mistake of trying to walk directly up to the glacier a few years ago. I got stuck in thigh deep mud, volcanic and obviously, as you said, covered by ice not too long before. Pretty gross. It was a rather sad looking area.

Ann Coulter is *not* attractive. I find her repulsive. The rest of them tho. Alright, this was a lovely conversation, but I'm to climb some shit!

There is no argument to the statement about activist judges. I generally believe their open to be more valuable than yours, and I guess you wont change my mind about that. I'm not sure what "point" will prove if they are activists or not in somebody's view.
