Obviously you didn't read the piece--and haven't heard of Charles Tilly. Remember, pretending to have read isn't the same as actually reading. Right, I must be the only one who finds disconcerting that someone who argued as vehemently as you did for attacking Iraq and wage the WoT, now claims to warn us about governments making up/creating threats to justify wars of aggression and racketeering of their own people.
-
That's rich coming from you, who in all probability haven't found an imperial war of aggression you didn't like.

Your combination of lies and getting the basic facts wrong is pathetic (Zelaya wanted to organize a popular vote on the constitution, jackass)

I never denied the climate is changing. But, hey, if you want to adopt the j_bot/libtard style of characterizing your opponents' positions to simplify the arguments you have to make, I can understand. It's a lot easier! Neither did I. I've just said it's unlikely that the unusually large quantities of CO2 coming from Dru's hole (or the uncorked CH4 coming out of his other hole) is causing it. Bullshit. For the last decade, you like most deniers have held positions ranging from "it's not happening" to "it's too expensive to do anything about", often drawing arguments from several of these mutually exclusive positions within the same post. As long as it delays doing anything about it, you are fine with it. Face it, you are waging a rear guard battle like the tobacco industry and its stooges did for 50 years.

No. It's not funny when Fairweather, who as recently as last year supported the Honduran military coup d'etat (and many other dictatorships before that), claims that I support authoritarian govts, which I have never done here or elsewhere.

Yokels like the ~ 75% of public opinion that oppose all attempts at doing away with SS. Extremist.

Unless you're casting your write-in vote for William Jennings Bryan, it's a pretty safe bet you're voting for these guys in November: http://www.workers.org/ Here come the smears from the john bircher. I have denounced MLs for as long as I have denounced fascists like you.

btw, there are pres candidates on the left with an impeccable antiwar record, who were against the patriot act from the get go, against corporatism, for a green economy, etc .. so you have NO excuse propagandizing for that things-were-better-in-1900 Ron Paul nutjob.

One can be for most of the things you listed without advocating for the dismantlement of the social safety net, or for unregulated capitalism that was the state of affairs for the 19th and early 20th century (and repeatedly proved to be failures so it's hardly new)

Given the latest round of Tea Party muscle flexing in the House I'd say we're getting our share and more of batshit crazy. Batshit crazy is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Like the current government. Obama is just the same as Bush is some respects. I am ready to go in a totally new direction. Batshit crazy libertarians arguing against SS (and and for deregulation, privatization, etc..) have been mostly in control of government since Reagan (Greenspan, Niskanen, etc). How does regurgitating their anti-social drivel amount to going "in a totally new direction"?
-
Yeah! Let's go back to 1900, along with other batshit crazy libertarians, when over 50% of old people died in abject poverty (and the handicapped didn't get to be old).

Census shows 1 in 2 people are poor or low-income Nearly half of Americans are low-income as rising expenses, unemployment shrink middle class APBy Hope Yen, Associated Press | AP – Thu, Dec 15, 2011 WASHINGTON (AP) -- Squeezed by rising living costs, a record number of Americans — nearly 1 in 2 — have fallen into poverty or are scraping by on earnings that classify them as low income. because we all know there is nothing compulsory about making one's economic condition the determinant of someone's ability to choose... just ask the ~50% of Americans in/near poverty level how voluntarily they make the choices they do.
-
No. Not Paul, Santorum, Perry, or Bachmann. mmmm....that leaves???? All those who claim that debt should be paid by the middle and lower classes, yet think that waging another war on Iran is a grand old idea? (on the same day we supposedly pull out of the previous costly adventurist mess they engineered)

It looks like the slide took out a pylon? I wonder if they were laughing about that

I had almost forgotten how despicably wrong he could be until I saw that video. It probably escaped JayB that terror increased since we invaded Iraq.

We don't have until the next generation to act on climate change. Anyway, aren't you the type who spouts his mouth off about "librul social engineering" and you want to engage in population control now?

China's emissions have gone through the roof in part because they now produce all the crap we used to make here (Canada's steep rise in emissions is largely due to resource extraction). China is also the largest investor in green energy worldwide (so in a sense they have been leaders in addressing climate change). In November, they announced a $1.5 trillion investment package in green technology, which I believe is about an order of magnitude greater than anybody else. China also for the first time agreed to be bound by a treaty to emission reductions so I can't see how Canada pulling out of climate treaties can help beside their eschewing responsibility for mining tar sands (game over according to some climate scientists). But, you'll notice that the quote I cited addressed the neoliberal canard regarding the cost of mediating climate change.

I was not lecturing you, I was merely stating facts that go counter to your mantra about our only choice being slow change within the Democratic party.
