    interesting article

here's an interesting article on the president's stage managers.
  3. what's high-tech about it?
  4. but man I really wouldn't want to blow out an anchor on a load-shifting setup, much better to tie off w/a cordelette in my opinion but that's me. The above is also illustrated in "On Rope", a caving rigging book that is quite excellent for all kinds of vertical work.
  5. yes it is a compromise between extension and allowing for some shifting loads. It's complicated to set up and usually only worth it for a rescue where you have some time while the litter is being rigged, patient treatment and whatnot. I'm sure many people know this but you can lessen the extension of the X'd webbing shown before by tying knots in each leg.
  6. hey! that trango thing's exactly like what a mountain rescue unit I know does with a 10m piece of cord.
  7. scripted thanks for queuing up the ptop though

  9. I love that area so much... hwy 12 is probably the coolest highway in the states right where it drops down out of Dixie Nat'l Forest:
  10. first class! probably fun to watch them as they desperately try to blow it off the book. maybe some sort of glue would make it even more entertaining.
  11. please leave me out of your barnyard fantasies erik: I hear the tillamook pastures are a sure thing. easier to score than burnside next time you're in oregon.
  12. if living in Hillsboro, you might as well live on the coast in Tillamook or something. Only adds 5% of the commute time.
  13. just drove by three guys in huge down jackets out in the rain at the mall down on Broadway. maybe I could get you hooked up. clearly they have down jackets to waste if they're hanging out in downpours with them. caveat: they say fubu all over them.

    Hey mountie bashers

yeah it's a pretty cool but still possible to over-tension the line pretty easily if you don't follow a few rules.

    Stoves

a friend of mine packed in a cast iron skillet and some huge steaks to grill up on a climb in the sisters years ago. the guy was a beast.
  16. while an antihistamine will reverse the effects of anaphylaxis, its effects come far too slowly to do any good. In the case of the bee sting allergic reaction you mention, injectable ephinephrine would be necessary as vasoconstrictor to insure an airway until the antihistamine can do its job. this is subject to the severity of the allergic reaction.

    Hey mountie bashers

the high-strength tie off is frequently used to tension tracklines in highlines. no, there is no knot at any end. everything is attached with prusiks to maintain full strength of the line. the prusik attachment provides a "clutch" which starts to slip at a known force, rather than catastrophic failure at a knot.

  20. I feel sorry for Powell having to sit in front of the UN and crank out that crap. He is one of the few I think many had a shred of respect for. But now even this is difficult.

    Stoves

I prefer my pots made from plutonium. Save weight by leaving the stove behind. Doubles as light and snaffle zapper
  22. be sure you don't accidently climb the north face or cooper spur as well, or wind up on disappointment cleaver accidently
  23. maybe those were the sherpas
