I don't think there is any such thing as a level playing field. and the more that we as americans buy into this "idea" the more we "dumb down" the next generation. There is no such thing as fare. there is no way to make yourself sucessful in this world without being very competative. I am not saying this is "right" or "ideal" but it is true. so for instance, the more we take the compation out of childrens sports, and make it so "no one feels bad" because they don't keep score etc. the more harm we are doing our children. If they do not learn how to loose gracfully, how to accecpt when they are beaten fare and square how can they know what it is like to truly succeed? they are doing the same thing in class rooms. They make the work too easy so that the slower children don't feel bad about themselves. Okay I think I might be done ranting now

sexey, I hate to point this little thing out to you but it was not poor people who were writing our constitution. It was insainly wealthy land owners. And they ment "all men are created equal" as in MEN not women not people of diffrent colours. they ment themeslves. Capitalism is not based on a humanatarian ideal. CAPATALISM means by the money. Rich get richer poor get pooer. Sure there are amazing exceptions to that rule... and yes it is the best system out there and I would rather live in this country (where I can shoot my mouth off with out getting shot ) than any place else in the world. But we are not perfect. there is room for growth and change. But that will not happen. Because rich people don't want it to change and yes... they have MOST of the power.

I don't know about anywhere else but there are verry few running mills here anymore. The Majority of the loggers that were still logging in the small comunity that I grew up in have not been logging since the mid 80's. frankly I don't know what else people would have to give up. Let them become FARMERS!!!

I think my skull just cracked open and my brains are now seeping onto the floor. This argument is about as solvable as trad vs. sporto. the war on drugs and the problem of poverty. what sk thinks she know: they keep cutting old growth because 2nd and 3rd growth trees are only good for making paper and press board. what sk wants to believe: again I will go out on one of my favorite limbs... leagalize hemp...canibis etc. in all forms and the pnw will be saved. nice cash crop... and you can make paper and press board rom the material. Still does not solve the problem of good quality wood to build things with, but it is a start.

I think poloticians should be chosen lottery style, some what like jurry duty, and all government money should be collected in donation boxes outside government buildings

whow there lambone, I just don't like phish, not my kind of music.... they do not move me. My all time favorite band live or otherwise is concrete blonde. Johnette touches me, moves me with her voice. She is extreamly involved with her fan base and is an extreamly cool woman. I have spent the last 15 years of my life in and arround bands and local musicians. And am married to one... so although I do not play, I feel like I have a lot of personal knowledge from the friends and people arround me that I care about. I have seen many bands rehers and for me, personaly I loose interest durring LONG DRAWN OUT musical interludes. I live in hippi central, I remember when phish came out... I just don't care because the don't touch the place in my heart that is moved by music. I have often likened being in a band to an intamate love relation ship with the playing being the "sex" I was just excited to hear any one have a similare oppinion

quote: Originally posted by Dru: a lot of Phish's music is just self-indulgent musical wanking, though. i mean so what if the dude can play guitar while bouncing on the trampoline if they're gonna make albums like HOIST now PRIMUS good dru makes a verry valid point here. I also read something that lammy wrote about the phish guy claiming that plaing music was alot like sex.... I have always thought that was the case... I find this verry interesting. so what would you say to a musician that does not have this experience???? are they doing something wrong????

as I share the same b-day week as thelawgoddess, at least I am in good company

I will talk shit to anyone anywhere, on line or in person. I don't care if they are chris sharma or not. Granted i have a great deal of respect for some of the bad ass climbers on this site. But lets face it, just because you can climb 5.14 doesn't make you not an ignorant asshole if you are. say what you need to say, do what you need to do, most importantly, be true to yourself. Ummm, sk has spoken

comming from an (ex) hippi herself I'm with iain. I think phish are boring, and except for a few exceptional songs, I was never have never been a huge dead fan AT ALL! I would much rather listen to niel young, or big brother and the holding company. There is a wide veritety of music out there for a reason. As a side note... pulled plastic last night and was pleasently suprised when we asked the gym guy to change the techno yuck to something a bit more agressive and he did Have you PDX complainers tried such a thing
