  1. At an Italian capacitor manufacturing plant, researchers studying 290 males and 1,020 females had statistically significant increased numbers of deaths from all types of cancer. In males, there was a statistically significant increase in deaths (roughly 3 times higher) from gastrointestinal tract cancers, otherwise described as higher deaths from cancers of the digestive system, the peritoneum, the lymphatic, and hematopoietic tissues. In females, all causes of death were significantly elevated, and there was a statistically significant excess risk of death from hematologic (blood-based, or leukemia) cancers compared with local, but not national rates. The study looked at workers employed at least 1 week and exposed to PCBs (specifically PCB Aroclor 1254 and 1242, both mixtures present in the Fox River). 2. Fresh Air is interviews, not debates.
  3. Can there be any doubt what that sock full of d-cells is really for?
  4. Yah, I've only got one good ear, so when I put it to the pillow I can sleep through anything.
  5. I've had mine done at Mountain Soles in Trout Lake for years and have always been happy with their work. Since I'm down in Olympia, its not like a Seattle outfit would offer any drop-in convenience, but sounds like they do good work. However, I have no idea who you're talking about, so a little more info for the ignorant would be appreciated. PS: When I saw the thread title, "this is a plug" somehow I thought Rumur was going to be talking about hair replacement technology.
  6. or a picket with threads...
  7. What about NW Ridge of Torment as a start? It's directly in line with the traverse, seems a little more true to the spirit of the thing than the S Ridge.
  8. I thought the Goran accident involved possibly cross-loaded or gate open load on the biner. I doubt those grooves would cause a failure, but as others have noted, if it makes you worry, retire it.
  9. Yup, me too. I've got a version of the 3 hard of hearing guys, with slight variations, that has them as carpenters, a body of folks known for hearing loss due to overexposure to power tools. It's funny that carpenters seldom seem to laugh when I tell them that joke, maybe they didn't hear it correctly...
  10. Yeah, thats what sprang to mind for me too, and somehow I thought they had a 33 gram model, I think a friend still has some on his rack. If I recall they were distributed by Lowe, a cursory google failed to turn up much of a reference, but I did learn that Faders is a separate Spanish company that makes carabiners, not just a model name that Lowe used.
  11. Don't bother Sisu, I'm so pure my shit doesn't stink, it smells like strawberries, and conservatives pay me to put it on their ice cream. Free enterprise, gotta love it.
  12. Who has Erik banned that is fun to have in Spray? If you're thinking Fencesitter/Babnick, you may be enough of a masochist to be a spelunker. Besides, he also unbanned him. The Trask/Erik dance is some little twisted tango I wouldn't stand to close to or make any rash assumptions about. That's about all I can think of.
  13. You're scaring me, Peter. Maybe more than Godzilla.
  14. The odds mean nothing, it's like having Godzilla appear on the horizon, and you just know he's going to come right your way.
  15. i am sorry. i forgot that in your presence i must type absolutely perfectly. eat me ass clown A typo you say? I assumed it was ignorance (in much the same way as someone might refer to "bumpershoot") and set about furthering your education, and this is the thanks I get. I swear, kids today just don't get much of an upbringing. Your daddy must have been much too lenient with you. I suppose this is an example of why spelling does matter, because sometime well before college enrollment poor spelling tends to get one discounted as dim, and few readers bother to make it past the bumbling attempt at written communication to consider the sloppy ideas expressed by such a slovenly mind. I suppose there's always a sports scholarship to hope for...
  16. I believe the phrase is "kid gloves," referring to dress gloves made from the skin of baby goats. Dressy and very soft, also difficult to clean, you'd want to take them off rather than get them all messed up in a fight.
  17. Trying to find pictures led to this one of Index:
  18. The routes are long gone, blasted to rubble and hauled off to make breakwaters. That quarry was really active when I went by there a couple years ago (Columbia Granite Quarry), some wierd kind of granite, super hard stone. You can buy a boulder big enough to climb on for only $25 a ton, but moving and placing it would cost big bucks.
  19. Off....I thought you were more mature than that. - Dwayner Jesus fuck, Dwayner, I was responding to Erik's original post, not some eggheaded discussion of mythology. Use the threaded view sometime for ChrisT's sake. (heheh, that was a joke for the thick amongst you). If ya'll wanna get off on some discussion about the bible, I'd give the same weight to Beowulf or Catcher In The Rye. I'm the atheist, remember? I'd just as soon stuff all your gods in the rancid depths of the Joshua Tree ammoniacal chemical toilets as drop to my knees and fellate someone's concept of holy. Immature enough for you? Mature=old=ossification, never my goal in life. The only life, if you ask me, I see the future and its nothing but maggots and weevils for thee and me.

    London Calling

Most folks allow as how London Calling was the Clash's peak album, they had good stuff before and after, but that album marked their creative peak. Listening right now to Rancid's Out Come The Wolves, as Junkie Man kicks in, it is eminently clear to me that this is without a doubt their London Calling. Sure, later albums had their moments, but nothing has had the overall coherence that denotes "greatness." For example, some might argue that the Beatles had their London Calling moment with Sgt. Peppers, but I'm curious to know what others thing constitute the peak of various other bands.
  21. Erik, baby jesus wants to have your baby. Please refer to the "marriage" thread.
  22. You guys all got no heart. Dude's just been up in the vastness of the BC Coast Range, makes it hard to imagine that any of this dreck merits even a keystroke. Once he's bored and restless, no doubt he'll deliver what the peanut gallery desires, but here's to satisfaction
  23. And now you've got the Mojo Nixon song "Tie My Pecker To My Leg" stuck in my head.
