Matt; I'd have to agree with most here that if you want to move away from Toyota, Subaru would be a natural move. I like both of the Subarus I have owned and they have surprisingly good ground clearance. Probably could clear both the creekbeds to the base of the Granite Sidewalk.

I like it Dru. My wife just rolls her eyes when I start to psychoanalyze all the Disney cartoons that my daughter loves.

Have a pair of Ballet Gold shoes that are in pretty good shape. Size 10.5US and resoled (including toe rand cap). The resole has been climbed on less than 6 days. Asking $75; let's deal. PM me or e-mail me at gwall@constructivision.com Greg W

...What kind of fucked up home life Christopher Robin had that he had to invent some weird fantasy about animals that talked and lived in the woods by his house. Not to mention the fact that the main character was an orange bear wearing only a belly-shirt. And do you worry about Roo being raised by a single mother (Kanga) without a father-figure? Maybe I shouldn't drink rum and coke and watch the "Tigger Movie" with my daughter.

I am still waiting to see a trip report entitled: Castle Rock: Saber (V 5.11c) and I expect sooner or later I will Speaking of ratings switcheroos, I was flipping through the most recent issue of Outside (the one with Dean Potter on the cover) and came across a short profile of Miles Smart. Next to the photo of Miles jugging a line, it talks about his speed record of Zodiac (5.10). What's that?

Furthermore, this board has really enhanced my overall experience in the mountains and given me much in depth thought about which glacier axe I'll need to send Denali. I am not sure how it's helped my climbing, but it must have somehow because when I am behind my computer I want to touch climbing in some manner. THIS IS IT DUDES! No matter how inane. So let's share some friendly 'ol beta with the gapers out there. YAH! I realize now because of the effort of many fine individuals and their subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, attempts at social engineering that it's important NOT to spray. I should fall in line with the BORG and become one... What is important is that I gain recognition via my postings and culminate the love and respect of my fellow climbers. Posting in a friendly and appreciable manner will lead to this end. Praise BE! AMEN! Hey let's create some catch phrases we can all share together at the next pub club Therefore I resolve to only post useful information on the web so everyone in the climbing community will see me as truly being one with them, and for them. Cause I care. Furthermore, I love Seattle and Oregon liberals. If it weren't for them, transplanted Coloradoans, Californians, midwesterners and Southerners wouldn't have any people to denigrate. Spray War. Someone slipped Mike some 'shrooms!!

Stay in New York, it rains all the time here. We all hate it but we're too depressed by the weather to muster the energy to move to Phoenix.

What's wrong with a bit of friendly jocularity?

What are you Greg some kinda fruity hippy dweeb?!!! No, I just remember my dad making a few of those when I was little (late '70's).

No offense meant, but once you are put in an even marginally frightening situation, you'll change your tune. Summit or the death thoughts are great when you are sitting on your couch at home, but fox hole religion takes over when it all hits the fan. Plus, I don't want to be hiking along and accidentally put my boot through your decaying torso.

quote: Originally posted by rbw1966: Works great if you are hauling. If not why bother? From what I read (might have been John Long), a group of three could move faster because while the second is cleaning, the third jugs another line and is ready to lead as soon as he gets to the belay so belay changeover time is minimal. The downside is that I think you have to carry almost two racks to make it worthwhile.

It's great that you want to take up ice climbing this season--I'm happy for you, but as you've said right here on this board, your total experience is climbing some POS grey low angle ice (aka O-rock)--a whole 400 freaking feet--and doing some ice bouldering. Oh yeah, and that super easy, I-could-climb-it-with-my-eyes-closed, fake wall at Cascade Crags. That said, fucking stop acting like you know what the fuck you're talking about! Listen, you ain't no ice climber yet! You haven't even had a taste of real ice yet. As someone who's climbed ice for several seasons now, let me tell you, be prepared to shit yo fucking pants when you finally get onto something worthy of being refered to as an ice climb. It's scary, and, frankly, you might even find that it's not for you. And look, fucking forget about free soloing, solo TRing, drytooling, etc. Girlfriend, you're looking to get yer self killed. You are WAY over anxious about this whole ice thing. Look, here's my advice to you if you want to be an ice climber: 1. Calm yo ass down. 2. Quit acting like you know wtf you're talking about (and save some bandwidth for the rest of us) 3. Keep practicing with Col. Spanker et al--great exp. for when you actually do try to FOLLOW your first REAL ice climb. 4. Quite trying to be super ice woman--again, too cool that you're taking up this hobby, but ice climbing is not one of those things that you can safely jump into as fast as it appears you're trying to do. Take care o' yo self, and don't fucking get killed on us. All she did was ask where it was fuck face. Yeah, fuck... Yer messin' with the Colonel's woman!!!

I can see the downside of not getting to lead as many cool pitches, so it wouldn't be that great of shorter climbs.

I carry a knife with me when climbing to cut old nasty rap slings, cut hunks of new webbing to leave as rap slings, etc.

I was surprised to find some of that in the Enchantments. I don't know how necessary it was as it was on fairly low-angle rock.

It'll go something like this: Greg: "You touch me in a gay way and I'll kill you." PeterP: "Ha, ha...Greg, that's a good one. What's for dinner?" Greg: "No, seriously, I'll gut you with my belay knife and make a macrame plant hanger with your intestines." PeterP: "Oh...okay. That's cool...how 'bout them Seahawks." And we climbed happily onward towards our goal. Greg W

Nothing more aggro than clipping shiny bolts in the "wilderness" Maybe if it was a rusty bolt with a Beckey aluminum hanger with ratty slings I'd be inspired.
