I thought I was going with the flow. Sorry.

Like I said, everyone has to be good at something. But I'm not always right.

I don't see Porter chiming in on this claim. They are moved to spray quickly instead of exercising some modicom of moderating. As I remember, the last thread was moved to spray because Lucky took a dump in it. (Everyone has to be good at something). It is not my site and you can do what you want. I'm guessing you (moderators who move the threads to spray and their supporters) will be remembered as being very short sighted. I choose to stand up for wilderness ethics regardless of what forum you think the discussion belongs in.

I'll bring it to your attention next time. Thank you. Porter treated it like it was a joke that I was concerned. You might want to run that policy by him again.

Bug- Again I'm sorry if you thought I was threatening you. If you are worried about internet confrontation escalating to real world violence why do you want the cc.com administrators to give out peoples names and vitals to another cc.com member? I am against them giving out names at all. That is a matter of privacy best determined by the participant. But if a site is going to do it to one person, they should do it to all imo.

OK counselor. Banning Hugh was not what I was after, it is just what happened to Capt Cavemen and at least one other person over threats of violence. At least that was what I was told by a source that apparently isn't very credible. Whatever. CYA. It seems to me that threats of violence should be discouraged at least. So far, only OW has acknowledged this in this case(of the moderators anyway). Hugh, you have apologized and I apologize I am dragging it up again. My issue is with the lack of moderation in such instances while other issues, like bolting discussions, are dealt with quickly. Seems like a sick sense of priorities. Don't know why I am surprised,....lawyers and money....

"Bug", I'm really sorry we mishandled that incident. When "Hugh" commented that he should have "caped your ass on the inter glacier" (which all understood to mean "capped"), I assumed that in fact you guys had encountered each other out in MRNP and were making with some banter. I don't believe anyone took what "Hugh" said seriously, and we failed to understand that you really felt threatened. I apologize for any fear and distress you experienced, and I'll make every effort to take future complaints at face value. Thank you for the acknowledgement and apology. It is the first time that anyone at cc.com has acknowledged any "problem" existed. To this day, I do not know who Hugh is or what he looks like. I was assured by someone else that he was not a threat but that was after three days of wondering who he was and how dangerous he was. I did do a search of his posts to find out who he was. I also pm'd a few people to find out and finally found one person who knew who he was. Not one of the moderators or owners of this site offered any assistance in any form. Porter seemed to think it was pretty funny. MattP, please explain to us how these issues might/might not affect our wives and families. I believe you have first-hand knowledge of this sort of issue and had the offending party(s) banned. Am I wrong? How would you have handled it if Porter had cracked jokes about the threats you recieved and did nothing about it? Ivan, are you arguing that because you know who he is and that he is small that he should be able to anonymously threaten the lives of other posters? Should we all just say, “It’s OK to threaten each other physically now”? Pretty lame stance asshole.

I'm still waiting for Matt to out Hugh_Conway. Appparently it's OK to threaten to "cape" someone but not OK to talk about bolting ethics. Comments Matt?

It's about the internet. This board is NOT unique in the genre of public boards. If you force people to reveal their true identity you will probably get more civil discourse. But people will find someplace else to play. Timmy and Jon will be begging what few are left to donate money. This is an awkward period of change. The "internet society" will have to work these issues out by voting with their presence or lack thereof. So far, those who impose pre-internet ethos on their site do not fare well.

Nicely done Komo 4 and Dane.
-
Hey Matt, Since you are so good at outing people, how about you post Hugh Conway's real name and city just incase he threatens to "cape" me again. Or does this sort of behavior only get people banned when they do it to moderators? I like a lot of what you say and do here Matt but outing someone that way is really lame. Clearly the most questionable thing I have seen you do on this site. How about posting a listing of everyone's real name so we can all be on equal footing? How about at least posting a listing of moderators and their names and cities? Watch 80% of em scurry into the shadows like cockroaches.

Sorry bug obviously living in Redmond your not hurting. I donate my time and resources down here , where millions don't dwell. Actually, it's not about me (this time only). SMR is supported by voluntary donations and those are not flowing freely these days. Both at the Mountaineers clubhouse: Friday March 19: 6:00 - 9:00 A fundraiser for Seattle Mountain Rescue. Come see the DVD Presentation released last year "Mountains Don't Care But We Do" a film on the history of Mountain Rescue starting with its origins in the PNW. We're trying to get two luminaries Wolf Bauer and Dee Mollenar to attend. Beer and Wine available for a donation and Seattle Mountain Rescue "supporter" T-Shirts for sale as well. More to come as plans firm up. Friday April 2: A Mountaineers Book release party for the biography of Wolf Bauer. That's about all the info we have on this, but I've been told there will be some special guests at that one as well.
