In the future, I highly recommend renter's insurance. Next time, even if your car is hit, you will be totally covered!

It was HUGE tonight, wait for the forthcoming Trip Report from Dwayner, fresh from his Big Tour of Europe...watch this space for the report of the most gigantic Pub Club EVER!!
-
I am going to try and make it...things are going well at werk, we'll hopefully see you snausages later on!

Oh, Professor Dwayner, to live such a charmed life as yours....being an old curmudgeonly guy withholding Mentos from America's future leaders....while you were increasing your girth at Gustav's, I was at a faabuloous party downtown with the usual crowd, you know, Winona, Brad and Jen, Julia, Gwyneth (poor thing had the worst excuse for a dress on) Denzel, the whole gang. I broke out a little black chiffon number, and had the girls in the Hair Department at work (I just looove having a Hair Department at work, don't you?) whip my bob up into a little French Twist, crawled into those 4" platform sandals (making me 6'1", and with the hair, a little top-heavy) and well, it would have been a great party but Julia got all weepy when I walked in looking better than her in a $30 dress and a borrowed hairdo. I guess I'll have to take her out to lunch or something to make it up to her. You went climbing? Isn't that kind of a poseur thing to do? Come on, no one on this board actually does that, do they?

Ritzville has the disctincion of being home to the "Ritzville Speed Trap." People flock from the world over to get speeding tickets in Ritzville!

Love ya, buddy, but I have a hard time feeling too sorry for a guy who had trouble getting un an .11a face climb....

Curious to know if anyone has had trouble with health insurance in this way. When I got hurt, it cost my HMO about $8K in surgery and rehab, and we're not done yet. Never heard 'boo' about it in terms of the fact that it was a climbing accident. And while we're sort of on the subject, my work is dangerous enough that we are considered somewhat uninsurable for long-term disablity insurance, but I would like to see about getting some, because my job is kind of dangerous. Anyone found a carrier that provides this service to people who work with their hands?

Oh, OK, W, stick that pretty ass out for me, I'll kiss that thing........oh, s#!+, gotta run, here comes W's hardbody ranger GF coming with a can of Whoop-ass in her hand...think she'd hit me if I was wearing glasses? What about safety glasses....yiiikkezzz!!! [ 03-23-2002: Message edited by: allison ]

Much as I hate to drift this excellent and informative thread, I'd just like to welcome "Country Jake" to our little board. As if his valuable insights about labor standards weren't darn near enough to be named cc.com Nobel Laureate, now he's got us all glued to our seats with witticisms about the "Heavey drug" and getting raped in prison. To all Country Jakes about to rock, we salute you! PS. Mark W, you are a damn BRAGGART!! [ 03-22-2002: Message edited by: allison ]

MEC is one company still making GT in N. America, specifically in Canada, where the labor laws are GOOD! I just bought one of their 3-plys a few months back, couldn't be happier, and it didn't cost that much either, less than $200 for a good, high quality piece. The point here being that you can pick up a good piece of gear, made in a place with decent labor standards, and good warranty service in this case, for a reasonable amount of money. Not all gear made this way costs way too much!!

I'll be there, feel free to start this one LATE if you want, maybe 9PM? That way hopefully peeps will still be there when I get there!

Icegirl, how about we call one of those "emergency" Pub Clubs tomorrow night at the Nickerson? I'm afraid I am still working on that musical thing, so I'll be there as soon as I can, curtain comes down about 10:35 so that puts me there just before 11PM if anyone's still drinking.....

Camazonia forgot my favorite product of trade unionism in the USA: The 40-hour work week. It's still a little too loooong for me, but hey, it could be a lot worse!
-
I'll bet you are right, and the reason it it only half is because I try to make an effort. [ 03-21-2002: Message edited by: allison ]

So the North End is out the window? I thought we agreed last week to do O nad T and then either the Nick or the Park Pub....?

I've been awake for all of these lengths of time for my work, 20+ a bunch of times, and at about 20 I hit a wall, and then about 25 hours I think I'm genius, but it is a kind of delusional genius. In my work we have to make decisions about safety all of the time. Really bad idea. Don't go there.

I will say that the OP folks have an excellent PR and legal staff, and that even given their helpful information, that I will never, ever buy their gear.
-
Will, for what it's worth, I've been a union member for most of my adult life, and have worked as a contract negotiator and a rep for my union at times over the years. Don't for a minute assume I don't know what I am talking about on this subject. On the other hand, I am surprised at what a shitstorm this has become. The only reason I broght up the whole prison labor thing in the first place is that it's nice to know these things when making informed choices as consumers. All I am doing by not buying OP products is exercising my rights as a consumer. I choose not to buy goods made by prisoners. I am not going to try and convert people to my way of thinking on this.

This pair is actually getting ready to go to 2nd Ascent. I have downsized to something lighter. Dru's oven method worked like a charm. It was about 20 mins at 150, sno seal is all soaked in, with just the dirt standing on the surface.
-
It's not the girth hitch that is so concerning here, it's what you are girth hitching to that's problematic. I would girth-hitch to a 'biner, around a tree, but not through a wire. Yup, cuts like a knife. I like Dru's test.

Ok, I did something dumb to my boots, and now I need your help. I scrubbed my mountaineering boots with a brush and some Lexol leather cleaner, and then when they were dry, I snowsealed them. Now I see that I didn't get them clean enough, the snowseal's kind of gross and dirty. Any ideas as to how to strip off this muck and start over? D'oh!

I know it's bolts, and I know it's 10a, but 'Pheonix' is the best, best route I've ever done in the park. Really fun high quality stuff. There are other good climbs on the Phoenix Buttress too.
