So, who has what planned this weekend at Smith? It appears as though I will need a partner for Sat/Sun. Anyone game? Craig

Top-roping for a while though till I read some good books, set up a lot of practice placement/anchors under keen tutors. I think it will always be in the back of my mind though.....maybe that's a good thing No, that's a GREAT thing! Good luck and remember......enjoy!
  5. I saw some interesting pic's in the photo album posted by COL. von spanker and I was wondering what the story was behind them? I'd assume its been posted but I couldn't find it. Craig

I doubt your willing to fly to Cleveland to steal a harness, rope and a small rack of pro. Steve Oh, you might be surprised! We Northwest cc.com types are always looking for booty gear and will go to great lengths to get it.

  10. I'm looking to get a group together for a Gib Ledges attempt this winter. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Best time, route finding issues, approaches, length of time needed for climb, etc., etc.? I have Gauthiers book so additional info is what I'm looking for. I know the book covers the route pretty well but are there any special considerations and/or experiences anyone has encountered that you feel relevant? Thanks, Craig

So how come when I log in my PM indicator says 0 messages even if I have some?
  12. I am just getting ready to learn to lead trad, in fact I've just put together a rack. I share your frustration with finding someone to help learn. I have settled for following leads and checking out gear placement before I clean it; I guess this is helping but it doesn't quench the desire to get out front and do it. But having said that, taking it easy and learning your limitations is as important or moreso than anything else you can learn. Anna, I would think hard before giving up all together on climbing. (Think back to what made you start it to begin with, try to find some of that passion) It seems as though you learned a valuable lesson, and as long as you learn from it you probably won't repeat it. Getting a little complacent in climbing is dangerous, but we've probably all done it at some time or another. A little fear helps keep you safe (at least I believe so). So take your experience and ease yourself back into climbing. If you never extend your abilities beyond even a 5.7, so what? Enjoy! I don't know how far I'll ever go with rock climbing, but I'm just going to enjoy the moment. If I eventually redpoint .12's, great, if I never complete a .10 on top rope....oh well. It's all about having fun and testing your limits, just know where your "redline" is! So that's my two-cents. Hope it helps. Good luck with whatever you decide, Craig

  14. I too have the bulky Vector. I've found it to be fairly accurate as long as I calibrate it before trips, i.e. at the trail head. This, I'd think, would be the case for most altimeters. Other than that I really like it. My one complaint (which I have for all watches in general) is the alarm only works if you wake up to the drop of a feather . Why can't they make a watch alarm that can wake up the dead, or at least the non-morning person like myself, wit dat! Craig [ 10-31-2002, 05:37 PM: Message edited by: CraigA ]

  16. Nov 9-11, sweet! Anyone up for Fri the 8th also. I have Fri/Sat off and would love to head down Thur night (taking Sun/Mon as vacation time). Otherwise I'll change my days off and head down Fri night. Let me know, Craig
  17. quote: Originally posted by iain: I'm pretty sure that photo is looking down the west ridge. You would not have that view at any time on the west face. Sorry if I didn't make any sense earlier Thanks. With what you said and where I felt we were I feel safe saying we did the North Face of the West Ridge. Shit, now I have to go back and do the West Face ...probably not time this year....oh well, next summer. I'll use any excuse to go to a mountain!! Thanks again, Craig
  18. I don't know how to pronounce it, but I came across this mountain while searching for something completely different. After looking at a few pictures of it I believe I have to climb it. Has anyone here done it and is it worth the effort? Is the climbing as awesome as the mountain looks? When is the best time to do it? Any info will be greatly appreciated. 19. OK, OK, iain if you look at the picture I've captioned as "looking down from the third pitch belay station", is that or is that not the West Ridge? And if you were doing the West Face proper would you have that view at any point on the route? Thanks, Craig
  20. quote: Originally posted by iain: the top part is definitely the west ridge summit block. dunno where you started from on the ground though. Does the West Face finish with the same last pitch as the West Ridge or are they completely different?
  21. Ok, here they are. About a month ago b_rock, his friend "V", FunGuy, and myself climbed Mt. Washington. FunGuy and myself set out for the West Face while b_rock and his partner headed for the North Ridge. FunGuy and myself had much discussion on where the route began, after a while we felt we had it and started up. I believe we ended up doing the North Face of the West Ridge and FunGuy feels we did in fact do the West Face. So, anyone who has done one or both of these routes, would you please go to Photo Album and see if you recognize anything. I thought the route was a hellofa lot of fun; I'm just wanting to know what to add to my climbing resume ! Thanks, Craig Oh yeh, I put them in the "Oregon Cascades" album and called them "Mt. Washington (route?)". [ 10-26-2002, 07:37 PM: Message edited by: CraigA ]
  22. Sweet!!
  23. If this is for this Sat. 10/26 I'd be up for Beacon. I've climbed the SE corner once with b-rock and wouldn't mind doing it again. My ability limits me to .8's but I'd be willing to try a .9 or two (no promises though) Actually, I'd like to try a .9 since I've never really been on one (I've been on a few .10's with no luck ) Let me know what you think, Craig [ 10-24-2002, 04:47 PM: Message edited by: CraigA ]
