What was collum's reasoning for bolting such obvious gear climbs as angora grotto, black cat bone, cunning stunt, and even most of climax control? (what others he may have bolted, i don't know.) I heard it said that he wanted convenience, since he lived in town and could go out with just some draws....I don't know how much sense that makes, but i can't really come up with any decent reasons myself. then there's the (ex) plastic hold on what was formerly known as Pine Nut(?) (now known as Heart Transplant) out at Nason Ridge. His actions seem like an arrogant disregard for the obvious, as does the recent rebolting of cunning stunt.

I think Greg Child was FA, in '83? Listed as a gear climb back then. Why do people take it upon themselves to do this sort of thing? Does anyone here know the identity of the bolter? The climb protects completely with gear, barely warranting a PG rating. Why the repeated need to bolt it is beyond me. Is it simply an ego game about who will have the last word? If anyone knows the identity of the bolter, it would be nice if this information was shared in this public forum, so that anonymity would play no part in this saga.

a hundred k isn't "far less" than what's needed to finance a standard 30 year fixed for an average price house in king county. Plus, keep in mind that the dual income household isn't anomalous nowadays.

Meanwhile.... Seattle's appreciation for the last calendar year: 11%. I thought Seattle would be slowing down more, but I keep hearing: "Seattle's a bargain." Considering the strength of the local economy, the influx of humanoids with money, and its increasing appeal as a destination, the argument certainly carries weight.

one man's sum-total is evidently quite different than another's; selectivity is often the hallmark of theories of conspiracy. But, since we were talking about mortgages....won't Hadrian's wall protect me from danger? ARMs aren't practical for my needs. 30 yr fixed works best with what we are doing. now if I was to plan a quick re-sell, then an interest-only would be the only logical option. You see, it's really about your needs, jayb. were you calling for federal intervention in the mortgage market, btw? things are really heating up it seems, with Goldman Sachs' quote "The direct macroeconomic effects of subprime stress are likely to be small" seemingly becoming dated rather quickly. Do you think that the "market" should have been more tightly regulated by the feds inre to the lending practices seen in the last decade?

wow, a conspiracy theory about a conspiracy theory. Interesting.

aw man, brings back fond memories....thanks for the photo tour! -
I'm not trained as a lawyer, but I think the judge makes decisions regarding the admissibility of evidence, and for good reason often times. Juries then make decisions based on the evidence heard (that's why we have juries!). btw, based on what i know about this case (which isn't a lot), i don't think he should have been convicted.

it seems to me that the history of the shootee should be inadmissable regardless of past relationships with the shooter, since there is no way to know if that history was relevant to the case at hand.

yeah a good idea, but it seems evident that the charging fellow already knew he had a gun, right? a person has a right to defend themselves against a charging man. it's not the responsibility of the person being attacked to figure out how to figure out the attacker's personal needs and emotional hang-ups here. it's not necessarily a counseling session when someone's charging you. i'm wondering how good the detective work was. i would think it would be beneficial to try to establish the shooter's and shootee's positions, distance between them, time between shots, attacker's distance from his camp, his footprints leading to his location of demise (was his gait a run?), exact location of gun shot entries into his body. distance between them seems crucial. it's pretty tough when you have one witness, and he's the one accused of murder. realize it could have been the other way around: old man charged by enraged camper who overpowers him, takes away his gun and shoots him.

Kind of like you wearing out your underwear? Word on the street is your underwear needs refreshing. alright lovers, get a room already. but with the attack thing: dude's getting charged by dogs. dude's maybe freaked out? who knows, we weren't there. he fires gun, dogs run away, ok, whew, some relief, but here comes enraged owner charging him even after knowing guy has gun. shit, what to do? frightened, man. (i'm glad you all are such fearless cowboys that you'd be all calm and calculating about shooting him this way and that!) how far away was assailant? we don't know. did homeboy keep running at him after getting shot? we don't know. seems like he stayed up for a moment at least since all three shots went into chest, right? any evidence he shot him after he was down? shit man, some lunatic charges you after he knows you have a gun, you've got every right to defend your ass, if this is indeed the way it all went down. one witness, circumstantial evidence, can't convict, man.

rad man, people actually moving to music! in seattle it's a bunch of shoe-gazers, too embarrassed or hip to have a good time. sucks to see metal or thrash or such with that type of audience.

diet, mountaineering, and bogus rock climber?
sexual_chocolate replied to Jens's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
i know diet is important in my climbing (and life). if i eat like crap, and too much, i get sluggish. when i eat lighter (skipping dinner once in a while and eating just fruit and veggies for a a day here and there), i feel lighter stronger and more energized. but there's a lot more to climbing harder than just diet though, although it's pretty self-evidential that if you're carrying around a bunch of extra fat, it's harder to get up climbs. -
You are a tenacious fellow, jayb. an important quality when wielding pippettes in one hand and the books of friedman etal in the other (they are such weighty tomes, requiring much more tenacity to wield than a little pippette!), AND building Hadrian's Wall, but i doubt you really believe that the simple metric of "cheap goods" is the only one to consider in any free market discussion, yes? Do you entertain the possibility of other factors entering the arena of public policy and social issue discussions beyond the "choices" of the consumer and the "rights" of the retailer? Surely you are able to come up with a few items? I'll tell you what: you come up with five concerns regarding walmart market-share ownership and presence in mexico, and I'll come up with five positives. How's that for a balancing of individual viewpoints? Unfortunately, well, fortunately actually! i'm leaving for new river gorge in oh about an hour, so i doubt i'll be responding soon, but i'd love to see your list, if you're willing to play. btw, did you know that if you had bought a measly $100 of walmart upon its IPO, that $100 of stock would now be worth.....somewhere around.... 2.7 million? such is the figure i just read.

There is a climber I know who was quite inspirational for me once upon a time. People had said I should climb with him, but you know, whatever; I never made it a point to try. I was fortunate enough to run into him at little si a few years later. Someone introduced me to him: "this is Dave Moroles, Dave meet Sexual Chocolate." "Hi Dave, heard your name before. Nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you too, Sexual Chocolate. You really are as sexy as they say!" I forgave him for his redundancy and thanked him for the compliment. He was tying into the rope, and since I had just arrived after the grueling hike up, was resting and hanging out, doing my own thing, rereading Engels or Marx on dialectics or somesuch. A few minutes later, I looked up and watched Dave on Chronic. There was a moment where nothing really registered, you know, just another climber on the local trade route. After a couple of moments though, I noticed something was different. Even though it's the trade route at Little Si, it's still a solid 13b, and Dave was not climbing it in the ordinary way. Dave was climbing it, no, climbing in a way that I really hadn't seen before, especially on a route of that difficulty. Actually, to call it climbing is misleading, since he was doing something a little different. I was taken aback. I felt awe; I also felt jealousy yes I admit it. These two emotions tugged and pulled at me for a little while, until thankfully awe completely won out. I was then able to appreciate the beauty of what he was doing on the rock. So how does this relate to the thread topic? Harken: Zen as I understand it is ultimately about the dhyana absorption state where observer and observed have unified, extinguishing the subject/object split, thereby leading to "satori", the awakening of the mind. Most people seem to carry on with their lives as "separates", barely in tune with themselves, much less their environments. In climbing it expresses itself as jauntiness, fear, grasping, gasping, verbosity, blame, etc etc, a generalized stiffness of body, originating in a stiffness of mind. Dave had completely transcended this, coming so much closer to the "Zen" state than anyone I had ever witnessed in climbing before. Still you ask: How does this relate to the thread topic? He was "resting in Zen" without interruption, throughout the climb. The "climb" was a rest! The entire experience was a continual flow, uninterrupted by any sense of differentiation between "rest" or "effort" in the conventional sense, and this exuded from him like a halo, a tangible aura which, from that moment on, redefined what climbing was about for me. Coincidentally, I've been climbing with another "Dave" lately, one who embodies what I speak of above, but on boulders. It's no coincidence that he regularly onsights V10, because of the presence that he has (although grades don't play into what I'm talking of).

what i really like about alice all chained up is their really subtle and diverse lyrics. they really explored lots of different and always expanding frontiers lyrically (and sonically!). a real joy to encounter a band so mainlined to the truth. all sarcasm aside, the guy was just a wee bit too in love with suffering as an identity. enough already!

Climbing With Friends vs. Climbing Hard
sexual_chocolate replied to G-spotter's topic in Climber's Board
i heard someone say that the reason certain people end up making money at what they love is cuz they simply love it more than the next humanoid. something to ponder for a few moments at least. -
