  1. i definitely agree with you. what he said was, and IS, relevant, and i think highly so. (A message can ring with insight, even if the messenger is corrupt.)
  2. well that actually happened, if i'm correct: clinton's "pay as you go". we had a surplus at the end of his term, and were well on our way to paying off our previous debts. and the government, even now, does "budget"; it's just that they rescinded "pay as you go", slicing away everything they disagree with, and borrowing for the things they want (deficit spending might be part of their (short-sighted) strategy to bankrupt the federal government, as they have stated in policy papers).
  3. ...isn't that what krishnamurti especially excoriated his listeners not to do? yeah of course. that was pretty central. but think of the difficulty this sets up for a young inquisitive mind looking for meaning and answers in a culture seemingly bereft of them: here's a fellow who seems to saying a lot of shit that makes sense. but in the end, it's HIS game, right? there's no way i could have digested his game so entirely as to be completely independent of it, at that time. especially when his game was quite revolutionary and "out there" for me, ie. not only intellectually challenging, but emotionally as well. i didn't have "solidity" in my own life, and here's a guy presenting "answers", see? and no, the irony of it all wasn't lost on me, and as a matter of fact made it even harder, cuz here's a dude saying "this is the way it is" (which he was, in many ways, no matter his disclaimers, AND I COULDN'T ARGUE WITH HARDLY ANY OF IT, CUZ IT RANG TRUE!), yet saying "don't listen to me for answers.". anyways, that was my uncomfortable dilemma which may or may not make sense, but to read about his foibles was actually liberating for me at the time....
  4. the author is hilarious. speaking of a previous post, actually j. krishnamurti was super influential to me when i was teens/college. he was one of the few who seemed to pierce through the shit for me. but i think i hero worshipped him and his teachings, which was uncomfortable. so when i read critiques about him, my discomfort started to make some sense, and i felt kinda liberated. this link goes into some detail about his crap, along with somewhat interesting analysis about possible reasons for his outlooks.
  5. I've been sick 11 days. Finally went to Doc, who even took chest X-Rays. I'm on antibiotics now. Hope you get better and don't go down the road I did. so last spring we went to AZ flagstaff, and jack's canyon, the pit, grand canyon, canyon de chelly, etc for two weeks and wtf i spend 6 days in hotel rooms in bed and finally see doc who prescribes bug killers. wtf? it's the only time i've been sick last few years is when we plan a vacation. did i already say wtf?
  6. yeah but to charge him with murder 2nd degree i think seemed f'ed up to me. i don't know, big fuck up all around it was. whatever. yeah agitated. sick 5 days, supposta be on vacation at smith or nelson bc, STILL have work shit to do on a proj. yeah agitated. btw, here's an interesting link for the spiritually interested: (scroll down about 2/5th's for special steven relevance) ummm, i am a link.
  7. "stick it to the man"? wtf, don't even try to equate his acts with some generic "revolutionary" "protest" act by using that term. his motives were purely monetary. side-note: those firemen should never have been ordered into a fucking vacant burning warehouse. to blame the arsonist for the idiotic moves of the then fire marshall is bs. btw, your "tulku" title is transparent, and will hereby be revoked. friggin sell-out tibetan buddhists.
  8. i agree with your points; i am also curious as to what you view as examples of the extreme sectors' influence?
  9. thanks. fair enough (except for the "slanderous mischaracterization" part! how uncouth to accuse me of such a terrorist act).
  10. the problem here as far as i see it is that it still demonizes "the right". The implicit assumption is that "the right" has done all these bad bad things and the "true patriots" must now come out in defense of what is noble and pure. i think one of the problems of both parties is that they cannot see the other side's aims as being aims that the other side truly believes in (rightly or wrongly); this leads to a tremendous amount of paranoia, since then every act is seen as part of a larger machination. it's very unfortunate. and it's tremendously unfortunate that there is so much historical justification for this paranoia. difficult position....
  11. why does this bring up so much vitriolic hatred for you and others? just curious.... is it because the perps MIGHT be people who you disagree with? or do you feel really badly for the project owner? or maybe the people who were denied a wonderful new house to live in? or perhaps it's concern for the house itself, you know, like an animistic worship of house spirit deities? would you feel the same anger if it turns out to be insurance fraud, and it was the project owner him or herself? i mean, i understand the american attachment to houses (well, actually i don't!), but i still want to know from someone who's angry as to exactly why an act like this causes such amount of anger.
  12. you are all very angry people.
  13. Mental Happiness is nothing but total relaxation. -Yogi Bhajan
  14. all i know is i'm gonna go out and build me a mcmansion or five. right now. i hear o'reilly is breaking ground on a few now too.
  15. yeah right. this'll lead to a new explosion of growth NATIONWIDE.
  16. these changes are making me highly uncomfortable. my palms are sweaty (but my fingertips are dry; Thanks, antihydral!).
  17. bah, the view is all screwed up using the "past 48 hrs" function. End around is to re-enter through the home page url (which seems to defeat the entire purpose...).
  18. Here's another at Index: Amandla, after Benny G's extension through the roof.
  19. no one can say with certainty how recent events will play out in the future. if the US falls the way of the Romans, will I be surprised? not terribly. I'm certainly not going to fret about that possibility. I'll do the things in my life that I think can positively impact my life and perhaps life in general (meaning being active in this life as I find it, politically, spiritually, economically), and the other stuff I'll leave to fate. i'm not christian, but i love certain aspects of it, including "god grant me the serenity to accept the things i can't change, the courage to change the things i can change, and the wisdom to know the difference." leave the stuff we can't change to fate, and enjoy the view.
  20. nope, haven't for years, but it might help reorient your perspective! sickie
  21. recessions happen (IF we are in one or headed for one). Did we not get out of the great depression? things in general are cyclical. the economy is cyclical, politics are cyclical. there is life and there is death.
  22. of course for them too - i just am not very optimistic it'll happen - how much longer can this house of cards we've built go on standing? that's just the typical northwest melancholy yer experiencing. it'll lift a bit come spring. i think you must agree that where we have come to is a mixed bag, with many positives and some negatives, but overall, it's pretty good, yes? take any metric, be it wealth distribution, life expectancy, access to education, freetime (ooh that's a tough one domestically nowadays! forget that one....) but overall, things are pretty damn good. yer sitting there typing this stuff on your computer on the internet, in itself a marvel that is yes in many ways useful and enjoyable.... and it's been through the hard work and curiosity and inspiration of a lot of different people that we've managed to find the positives that we have....
  23. how about your wife? mom? dad? any brothers? how about friends? friends of friends? wow. pretty jaded, and rather, ahem, Republican in sentiment.
  24. raindawg, are you drunk again?
  25. hey i thought you were supposta be shot in the woods, or straining on a island listening to shite music? i kinda like the new option, cuz i don't think spray was ever intended to take over the website, right? plus, it's scaring away advertising dollars.
