What do you think about Skaha this weekend?
jhamaker replied to Mtnclimber's topic in Climber's Board
Looking at the weather, I'm gonna go w/ Frenchman's Coulee. -
Took me a recon to find it too. Have a nice adventure. More of an adventure would be the looseish IV/V 5.9 starting in a gully and finishing at the main pk of Garfield.

West Butt Denali, yes if they fit over your overboots nicely. Lots of snow, very little ice untill later season. Lots or others kicking nice steps. Also lots of fixed lines. Stuart - only if all the rime is melted out/snowcovered. Thin ice and Al crampons don't mix well.

Don't forget barametric altimeter. I've been wafling too. I decided to go cheap and not buy one that maps. I don't like the maping resolution available at this point. Others disagree.

Climbing near Tolouse France
jhamaker replied to TrogdortheBurninator's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
Since I never drove, I can't tell you where, just that it exists. I think we did a lot of climbing up against the Pyrenees. Lots of canyons to the SE w/ climbing - how long to Verdun? Calanques? You could take a couchette after work, climb for the wk-end, then couchette back and be ready in the am! Contact the Syndicat d'Initiative, le CRIJ, Jeuness et Sports, etc. There is always buildering and climbing the cement dike downtown. Ask your liason to get you in touch personaly w/ a climber where you'll be working. Constance is my nemisis. I've yet to summit after 4 or 5 trips. Mabey I'll stop trying in the winter. Mabey I'm unconsiously addicted to the scenic trail to Lk Constance.

Who climbed here last? I remember one missing anchor when rappelling down early last yr. Rumor has it that an add'l anchor was pulled? by the Eco-challenge folks? And they added random bolts? So what is the latest from Blueberry Hill?

Let's get this show on the road! Wanna meet up at Smith this wk-end then plan RR from there?

I like short and fat and soft randonee for mountains. At worse they are a pair of slow-shoes. At best, they are light, manuver instantly, are light, are easy to jump turn, short skiis mean short skins - light. They also make great pickets. Soft means roller coaster rides over strusturgi, sun-cups and logs. Fat tips and extreem side-cut means more work breaking trail and difficulty w/ icey side-hilling. Like any ski package, start w/ the boot, then get the rest. Give some thought to liner replacement, sole, cramponability, weight, walkability, durrability. Can you deal w/ everything w/ mittens?
-
When climbing this route, if there is anyone below you, rap off the BACKSIDE and WALK down.
-
How about mid-wk next wk?
-
I have an REI Traverse Haute Route expedition back pack I would part with. jhamakeratoperamaildotttcom

What about S side access to RR grade and Boulder?
-
How about a carpool from Spokane and one from Puget Sound? I can lv earlier/ stay latter. I have a choice of two cars. One can hold 3 w/ gear, the other 7 w/ gear. As I mentioned earlier, I'm especialy intersted in grade III's and IV's up to 5.10 A 2.
-
How about Ruth/Icy or Boulder Gl on Baker Tue / Wed? jrh 206-5five0- seven5for3

It just so happens I have an extra climbing partner I could lend to your friend if you wanted to hook up w/ me to do more interesting, longer rts.
-
So, you're still going?

Olympus Stylus 400, 410, or 500. The 400's are 4Mpixles, the 500 is 5Mpixles. This is one of very few waterproofed cameras, has 3x zoom, and has Li-Ion batteries packs. I realy want one. Lemme know if you find one for less than $300.

I noticed that Red Rock Rendezvous 2005 is scheduled for 18-20 March, not April. Did I get the wrong RRR? Are there two, one each month, maybe? It would be even better to go in March. Just as I was getting used to finding aproaches to 5th class alpine climbs here in the Cascades - here we are getting some more this wk-end. Argh!
-
I'm heading to the Methow that wk-end, but hope to get over to Frenchman's Coulee some time this month. Is mid-wk possible for you? I note this wk-end is looking damp. jhamakeratttoperamaildotttcom

Exit 38 is drying out, as soon as Frenchman's Coulee warms up, I'll be over there. Same w/ Leavenworth. I've driven strait down before and got some climbs in after 24hrs of driving. Hey, you can sleep when you're dead right?
