We are trying to get permission from a private landowner to climb in a small gorge (110') with a small waterfall at the end. It would be perfect for ice. In talking to the landowner, we settled every issue (liability, etc) except she thinks that the rock is too fragile. Now we know that climbing on the ice has little impact on the rock. Does anyone have a reliable and recognized source I can show her or quote concerning the lack of impact? Thanks,Dennis

Just got my Salomon Super 9 Guides and I am looking for tips on fine tuning the fit (the instructions are not too detailed). I'm referring to both the heat moldable insoles and the fitted tongue. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Dennis

My 2 cents. If you're going to go through all the expense and logistics to climb Denali, pick a route other than the Butt (assuming you have intermediate mountaineering skills, can operate without a guide, and have been higher than 15,000', I would recommend Muldrow Glacier, its a bit of a walk just to the Glacier, but less crowded than the Butt)

I've had this jacket for two years and lots of abuse. I love it. Warm, stuffs small, no frills, bells or whistles to break, and slides easily under a shell. -
Do they come with allen key, wrench and anti-bot plates? Interested in negotiating. d-elvis@uplink.net

My opinion was limited to the very specific, energy sucking and particular situation of the so called "death zone". (i.e. could Jon K. have helped) A climber cannot go there and expect that he will be rescued. He must plan on relying only on himself. My opinion would change if the geography involved was rescue from a crevasse in Boston Basin or off of Baker. Antoli saved several lives, no question. Even Beck Weathers passed on the first chopper flight in '96 to let the other injured climber go first - could I have done what these men did? Don't know until I was in that situation, but I hope so. -

Above 20,000, unless your a guide, you have no obligation to saves someone's ass. They chose to be there, accepted the risk and if they chose wrong, life sucks. Would I risk my ass to save my team member, yes, absolutely. Would I risk my ass to save a stranger, no.
