One less bag of M&Ms would have been easier.

...almost have something in common. While working in my furniture class last night with small stock and a dado setup on the table saw, last class of the semester, last 10 minutes, I made a mistake. Luckily the cut did not reach the bone but did manage to cut halfway into the ring finger nail from the side. Ouch!!! So my question is: Will VW be kind enough to delay my 6 mo membership I just purchased last week for at least a month or will they play the vulture?

Hey Rob- From downtown you can have a nice waterfront run. Go north to Myrtle Edwards Park, which is a linear park along the waterfront. Keep an eye out for seals, sealions, and falcons picking off pigeons near the grain elevators. You can get to Discovery Park this way by following the trail throught the train yard, going straight on to the street at the sharp left tur, then keep going straight to the park. Though this is likely a 12 mi round trip. Mytle Edwards is your best bet if you don't have a car, and you can stay on dirt or grass (soggy) if you don't like asphalt.

Nope. Consulting ecologist. Had a KC job to help out on the Cougar Mt. master plan. Veg mapping, historical wildlife use, landscape ecology and trail planning. Got to talk with a lot of folks that live nearby and some had great videos of bobcat and cougars in their back yards. Also spent some time with Harvey Manning at his house. What a hoot that guy is. And he's been around the block a few times.

Worked on some land acquistion projects up there 10 yrs ago. No mt bikes allowed, varied terrain. In town I would go for Discovery Park. For some varied short loops Ravenna Park is good, particularly if you tack it onto a longer run.

Got my wife the Cold Fusion jacket last year. She likes it a lot, useful for 90% of conditons. If it's hosing out you want the hard shell. Great for skiing.

But he is a moral force. Except for the illegal drug use thing, oh and the nasty ongoing thrid divorce thing, oh, and the constant lying through his teeth. But I guess the end justifies the means, blah, blah, blah.

Most excellent show and venue. Amazing photos. He has a regular job and still climbs at such a high level. I taught a session of climbing to kids in the Icicle last year with Steve who also volunteered. I had heard that he had been up K2 but did not know the extent of his experience. He was great with the kids and very unassuming. I wish other climbers would also be benefactors where they climb.

Ah Carlson - stop whinning. If the shoe were on the other foot the Republicans would be pulling out all stops for the same reason. It is too close and the state constitution allows for a recount. Get over it.

There are several crafty ways the Bushies are pushing this forward. Even if salmon do not now inhabit streams they still have access to, and may in the future as conditions improve, these streams are off the critical habitat list, AND they are scrutinizing any data supplied by ecologists to show occurrence and tossing out the ones they think they can get away with OR tossing out the streams that they say will have "economic impacts". Of course without calculating any social cost of loss of salmon or degredation of habitat. In essence this will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Fish are not in streams now, allow development close to streams, habitat degrades, stream cannot support fish. Scott - you should get involved in the Critical Areas Ordinance update for the City of Sammamish, which should be beginning in January. They will have a citizens work group to help shape the recommendations for stream buffers, etc. Make a difference.

This is just the beginning of 4 years of bad news. Next up - drilling in ANWR and gutting of the Endangered Species Act, delisting of murrelets, and then the coup of delisting salmon. All despite the scientific recommendations of the agencies (supposedly) in charge.

If you don't have a ticket you can likely get in. Get there early and put your name on the list of wannabes. They will check the capacity and sell additional tickets, I was told this is usually at least 20 or so. A bit of a hassel but it you really want to see it there is an option. Also some folks sell extra tickets at the door. -
Read and comprehend. The point is that it is a small group of Christians that are trying to push Creationism in schools, it is not the goal of all Christians. No other religious splinters seem to be pushing the issue.
-
I don't recall ever seeing Muslim or Jewish organizations banging on the school doors to have creationism taught in schools. It's always the fundamentalist Christian wing-nuts. So from what I've seen it is a right wing Christian thing.

1) Creationism is not = to Christianity. 2) Science does not = Evolution. 3) There is no inherent lack of compatibility between Christianity and Evolution. You are entirely misinformed if you feel this is the case. Since you are a scinetist, I would figure you would research befoer making statments about which you know nothing. Hmmm. I didn't mention Christianity did I? And here's a flash - evolution is based on science. Creationism is based on faith. I didn't say that there was any incompatability between Christianity and evolution. But there is incompatability between Creationism (which is a religious construct) and evolution (which is a scientific construct) Evolution is likely the most widely accepted "theory" among scientists. I'd suggest you take a look at last month's National Geographic for a layman's article by David Quamman titled "Was Darwin Wrong". It lays out the facts and falicies pretty well. Bottom line: Nothing wrong with faith, just don't try and disguise it as science and keep it outta the classroom. Books you might wanna check: In defense of evolution - Berra, National Academy of Science: Science and Creationism, and Ever Since Darwin by Stephen J. Gould.
-
I think that's the point. Religion is based on faith, not logic. Science is based on fact and logic. Creationism is not science, it is religion, and has no place in the teaching of science. I teacher friend left her job in a small town outside Wenatchee because she was forced to stop teaching evolution. WTF?

It took my wrist about 7 months to heal from a nasty sprain via a bicycle fall. I would have bet it was broken it hurt so much. Rest, rest, rest. Otherwise chronic injury.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." [1920] -H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)

At JTree. Overhang Bypass, Double Cross, Headstone, Walk on the Wild Side, and something I can't remember the name of in Real Hidden Valley. One pitch, looked like a potato on end, around 10a? Something lady? Took a whipper on that. Sunny, high 60s, cool at night, not many climbers, one bobcat, many coyotes, hares, and roorats.
