  1. It does meet the requirement of Multi-Use.
  2. Commercial DVD's are mpeg2 with encryption. You only need to buy the DVD decoder if you plan on playing commercial DVD's on your computer.
  3. When a Colleague of mine would get bored in a meeting, he would bring out his swiss army knife and start trimming his finger nails. He would put the cuttings in a pile on the table till the end of the meeting and then put them in the trash can.
  4. It's that the view from the parking lot?
  5. I used the batteries on Denali till 17K. We used it in a MP3 CD player. I went through 1 set of batteries while the other tent used about 3-4 sets. Not only do they last longer, they are lighter and work fine down to -40 degrees F. I think the standar alkaline says operating temp is 72 degrees. I use them on all my outdoor electronic equipment.
  6. How do you tell it's bed time at Michael Jackson's house? When the big hand touches the small hand.
  7. Friday: First time climbing in a couple of months. I did the West Buttress of Exfoliation Dome. It was a perfect day to be climbing in Darrington. We didn't see another party all day.

  9. I know you can do specialized searches on monster. I got 2 calls for positions I never even applied for. They found key words on resume that matched their requirments. I was offered both positions. I was surprised by the response from monster.com.
  10. 1. Swauk pinnacles
  11. One way to avoid the crowds
  12. I'd say if that is all you have, then use it. My understanding of the daisy chain is that it's use if for static loads, not shock loads like a leader fall. If you need to adjust the length, you shouldn't clip a biner into two loops. There is a chance the biner is only attached to the stitching between the loops and not the main stitching (which is stronger and the proper way. I put an overhand knot between the first and second loop so I can double clip the daisy. When I double clip, there still is a chance that some stitching will blow but I will still be protected from the main stitching.
  13. Mine isn't quite so big and I might have found someone.
  14. Don't know if they are allowed or not but Cpt. Caveman did bring his puppy a couple of years ago with no issues, at least no issues about the dog, but we did have some issues with his puppy tossing.
  15. and have room in truck or Car? I have a small cabinet that needs to be picked up. I'll buy some beer\gas money. It'almost on the way to Smith and it would save me a trip down there. Thanks Chris
  16. Back in 1992 my Uncle asked if I wanted to go on a climbing trip for a couple of weeks. I said sure. He flew out from Seattle to Cleveland, picked me up and we drove straight to the Rockies. I think we stopped 3 times for gas and we only had 1 tape to listen to. Jim Nabers, didn't know Gomer pyle could sing. Anyways, our plans was to climb Longs peek and Mt. Meeker (Rocky Mountain National Park) via the Lambs slide. We couldn't get an overnight pass because it was not considered a technical route (30-40 degree snow\ice for 2000 ft). It was 14 miles round trip with 6-7000 ft gain with Longs peak topping out at 14,256. We hiked in and since we drove straight to RMNP, I never really acclimated so once I got to 10,000 ft I started to feel like shit. Didn't know what it was so we kept going. Because I was moving slow, we realized Longs peak was out so we just went for Mt. Meeker (13,9??ft?). We summitted but I was to slow to make it down. We ended up biving around 13,000 ft in the front range. The whole drive out my uncle was telling me stories of how climbers die from not being prepared and stuff like that. Now he says "This is the highest bivy I have ever done." I was soo tired I fell asleep right away and started snoring. My uncle was annoyed because he couldn't sleep and this was my first time in the montains and I was out like a light. He brought out his emergency foil blanket and put it over me but it was so old that it just broke apart. During the night we also had to deal with a Eastern Rockies Long haired snafflehound trying to get into our food. When we woke up it was lightly snowing and we had a great view of Boulder lit up from 13k. I was feeling better and we hiked down to our car to find a ticket because we didn't have an overnight permit. The picture is blurry but you can see my state of the art gear I was wearing. Cotton Camo pants and purple ski coat. I think the only thing I bought for the trip was the boots. You can also see the gold\silver emergency thingy. Could this also go under the bad photo thread?
  17. Have does one learn the olive oil skill? I get a bad vision if it's not properly learned.
  18. Oh yeah, Deleting the post sucks. This is a discusion board, discuss the good and the bad.
  19. When I read that thread I could only think of one thing. - Route Description - At the same time I think of my own experiences. I have bivied more then once on a climb. It's just part of climbing. You learn from your mistakes. I don't know of anyone who has gotten it right the first time, every time. From my climbing experiences I am getting more of an attitue of "lets try it and see what happens". I am trying a lighter and faster approach on longer routes. If I get stuck out, I get cold, probably not going to die. Does that make it a mistake? I'm not saying all their decisions where good ones, but they made it out to talk about it. They also posted a TR so they probably had a good time.. I like to relate my most miserable time in the mountain. Don't we all? I did the route last month roping up at 10am with 100ft of rope. Does that make it bad style? Bad decision where made and I'm sure they learned a lot from them.
  20. Just think of the new speed records!!!!!
  21. #1 - If memory serves me right, Grade IV is 8H\Full day for the average party. If you are fast, Simul-climb, link pitches, you can shrink that down quite a bit. If you are on a common route at Red Rocks, expect a couple other parties on route that can slow you down. You also have to worry about gate closure. If you are doing a route off the loop road, you have to wait till they open the gate and be out before they close it. Some canyons have long hikes in. For some of the really long hikes in, I think they allow bivy permits in advance. #3 - Yes it's possible
  22. We could see fires from the top of Dragontail on Saturday that were in that area. Every once in a while they would flare up. They were something like 15-20 miles away.
  23. Here are some pics I put a TR with more pictures on my website Shakingleg.com
  24. We got to the shell station at 10:15pm and had a microwave burrito and breakfast sandwich. Washed it down with a red bull to stay awake. No Good Food.
  25. I wouldn't worry about changing the name on the permit. If a ranger asks, say "Hi, I'm xxxxxx I left my picture ID in my car" Or he got sick and I filled in for him.
