  1. Great trip report! The Pickets never fail to deliver an adventure ;-)
  2. What a great adventure you two! fantastic. and a great writeup as well. almost makes me want to walk up the river ;-) The Challenger group has surprisingly reasonable rock given some of the other stuff around there.
  3. Great work Eric and Rolf! way to make it happen. that step across sounds spicy. or smoky? glad you got this ridge done! ;-) we made two attempts on it over the years. In 2011, with this as our objective, Mario, Keith, and I hiked in with a solid weather forecast, only to get hammered at Perfect Pass big time. we called Sandy on the sat phone for a weather update, and he said "wow you must be enjoying the sunshine up there" ... that was about when i was trying to keep my tent from collapsing. we had no extra days and so that was that. in 2015, Matt, Sandy, and I went for it again, and made it to the base of the Phantom West Ridge, but we just didn't have the gumption to tackle it once we got there. we ended up doing the standard route on Phantom instead. writeup on that trip here:
  4. Wow! exciting to see a second ascent of this route. great work you two! such a remote and spectacular feature. i'll never forget sitting on the Big Beaver trail 15 years ago, on our way out from Luna Col, and seeing Wayne come upon us on his way out. "hey Wayne what were you up to?" he showed us the pictures of the Mongo climb on his camera. uh you did that? solo? it still beggars the imagination to this day.
  5. right on, looks like a fantastic trip! Wild Hair Crack is such a great route, right? great moves, great position. and that middle section of the NE ridge of Chopping Block is sweet. its funny, i replaced webbing on several of the rap stations on that earlier this year, you probably replaced all the others! you can rap it fine with a single 60m rope, but the rap line is funky on the lower section.
  6. yeah it was my first alpine climb in about a year, due to an achilles injury, so it was fun to be back out there!
  7. Trip: Colchuck Peak - North Butress Couloir Trip Date: 06/09/2019 Trip Report: The NBC is in fine shape right now, go get it! morning light on Colchuck Peak and Colchuck Lake: on the approach: looking up the couloir: there is one melted out rock band down low: enjoying the climb: on the upper face: summit city: goat-ville: Gear Notes: small rock rack; no ice screws necessary right now Approach Notes: trail is in good shape
  8. beautiful photos as always Jason!
  9. wow, strong work! a full Pickets adventure ;-)
  10. beautiful! i hear those bears really like a good scratch behind the ears, right? ;-)
  11. Jason, i love that photo of the clouds streaming through the trees, outstanding!
  12. outstanding! as you may know, this route is John Roper's all time favorite. We wanted to climb it this summer, but were out of juice after our Ottohorn climb. Here is a shot of Wild Hair from atop Ottohorn:
  13. an update, i realized after discussing with John Roper that i had accidentally swapped the names of the two Ottohorn subpeaks. The westernmost one, that Marko went up a few weeks before us, is Honk; the middle one is Beep. I like sticking to John's original names.
