Just my wandering mind...and the longest post I've ever made... USA invades Iraq. Military and political targets are hit from the air with minimal civilian casualties. Our army, along with the British, advance rapidly and meet only light resistance. Saddam orders gas attacks on advancing American forces. These orders are not followed. Rebellious Iraqi officers are shot by the hundreds by Saddam loyalists. North Korea takes advantage of our Iraq distraction, intensifies its nuclear blackmail. Positions heavy weapons in the DMZ. Says "fuck you" to USA and UN. Tests resume of long range missiles fired over Japan's air space. American forces cross the Iraqi desert unapposed. Close in on Bagdhad. A smaller force decends from the north. China threatens invasion (for which they have been practicing for decades) of Taiwan. Positions landing craft across the Taiwan Straits. North Korea performs an above-groud nuclear test. USA stations multiple carrier groups off the coast of N Korea. Sails a battle group through the Taiwan Straits. Deploys an additional 30,000 troops in South Korea. Baghdad falls as Iraqi officers refuse to follow orders to fight on. Iraqi civilians dance in the streets. No one is able to locate Saddam. (He is later found dead in a Tripoli brothel) American Navy ship and Chineese ship collide in Taiwan Straits. Tensions mount. American warplanes hit and destroy Yongbang reactor complex in North Korea, but it is belived that several bombs have already been assembled and hidden. North Korea masses their army along the DMZ. China promises only moral support for their communist friends. China and North Korea launch simultaneous attacks. China on Taiwan, and North Korea on the South. Within days, North Korean army is on the outskirts of Seoul. American air power is somewhat effective, and over 100,000 North Korean troops are dead, but their advance continues slowly. American airpower is hindered by harassment from N Korean airforce. An unknown number of American and South Korean troops are dead. The United States Navy, under orders from home, stands down while the Chineese navy lands thousands of troops on the shores of Taiwan. Taiwanese resistance in weak and hindered by mainland spies/traitors within the ranks of the officer corps. USA says it will use battlefield nuclear weapons to save Seoul, if necessary. This will not likely be necessary as the North Korean army's advance is slowing dramatically. Food and fuel are becoming real issues for the North's army and the combined forces of USA/ So Korea are dishing out unbearable punishment on the enemy, although the shelling of Seoul continues, and thousands of South Korean civilians are dead. Intelligence reports arrive in Washington DC that the North is preparing to use some, or all of their nuclear weapons. Within hours of this news, several underground command and control centers in North Korea are hit from the air with devastating effect. It is suspected, but not confirmed, that at least some of these strikes were carried out with American "bunker-buster" nuclear weapons. North Korean command falls silent. NK's army begins to lay down their weapons. South Korean troops pour into the North to restore order and arrest North Korean leaders. China threatens force, but remains on the sidelines. Iraq is liberated. Taiwan is "liberated". Korea is "united". .......I think this whole scenario could be averted with a good old fashioned assasination. Just kill Saddam and Udai.

The previous Adams picture, obviously, is not mine. All of the others I have posted are though. I recently bought a Minolta slide/neg scanner. Lots of fun. Someday I'll put 'em on a website so I can post them here w/o the "attachment" burden. ...unless you know another way? I've got quite a few photos in the "photo album" section. Look under "top photo posters/Fairweather." (I guess I was bored that day.) In the meantime, here's another one that's mine. I took it on a Mazama Glacier climb about one month before the Big Rockslide in the USFS photo....

North, Actually it is Harvey Manning that does the ranting in the 100 hikes series. I think Ira, from what I've read and seen, is a bit more fair-minded. It is funny that you cite the "100 Hikes" series as an example of stated arrogance. The anti-everyone-but-us rantings therein are exactly what I was refering to. Unfortunately, slaming old-man Harvey is blasphemy 'round some parts. He wrote the books showing us all "how to get there", and now that he's had his fun, wants to lock us all out! (or so it sometines seems)

Willis Wall? 'Dats krazy!

...I didn't know what you were talking bout at first... This is just terrible.

I'm sure Iraqi civilians will die. Sad, but the blood will be on Saddam's hands, not ours. If he choses to place his anti-aircraft defenses near/on hospitals, mosques, "baby milk factories", and schools, we will have no choice but to destroy those targets. Flame away, but I would not trade the life of ONE American serviceman for the lives of 1000 Iraqi civilians. The Iraqi people stood still while a tyrant was in their midst. Now some innocents will likely have to pay. Sad, but true. This blood will be on Saddam's hands.

Perhaps the French CAN help the United Stetes in this war without sacrificing their pacifist beliefs. They can show Saddam and his troops the proper way to wave a white flag! Their expertise in this practice remains unchallenged.
-
Great post! Who would ever have thought.....The French and Germans as allies! Thank goodness they don't represent all of Europe. Sounds like the Spanish, Italians, and all of the ex-Soviet Eastern European republics are with us. I heard today that Denmark is with us. I will make it a point to avoid purchasing any French or German-made products until they get their shit together.

originally posted by Sexual Chocolate: Sexual Choc, this seems to be a recuring theme for posts you present as your "evidence". "....I can't remember the source/ I forgot...." blah, blah, blah. Did the dog eat your homework?

...and still more. JB, Sex Choc, Dr Flasher, are so anxious to blame America first...so anxious to over-analyze, so sure they're morally and intellectually superior to the majority, that they can't see a picture like this as murder on a ghastly scale by a tyrant who's got to go.

Hey bDubya, Whats the latest on building the Skagway to Juneau highway I read about last year? I've taken the ferry up Lynn Canal a couple times and I have a hard time believing that a road could ever be built...at least along the "shore".

Do you think the Dems would be proposing ANY tax cuts to ANY income level if Al Gore were president and/or the Dems controlled congress? They have been reduced to the "Me Too!" party. The writing is on the wall if they want to read it....

Desey, My all-time favorite mountain boots are my La Sportiva K2's. (Leather inners!) My love for my K2's led me to buy a pair of LS Nepal Extremes when I was looking to replace my plastics. Big Mistake! They are too soft in the ankle, and my feet go numb at about 15 degrees f. The moral of my story, I guess, is that boots (leather, anyway) are the biggest gamble you'll ever take re: gear. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to brand/fit/comfort and no way to predict your final level of satisfaction. Good luck. Just my .02.

...and your flag-burning avatar is over the top. (as I'm sure you intended it to be) Is that you holding our flag? I hope it catches "someone's" attention. Ya know what I mean? Don't get me wrong. I do believe flag burning is protected speech. I just believe you are a bit childish. ...just another uninformed yoot, you are.

Wasn't that Siberian Prison camp run by Sexual Chocolate's great uncle, or somethin'?

Don't be 'dissin the Sweedish Bikini Team my liberal friend... some things are just sacred. Besides, I don't need subliminal or overt advertising to tell me that girls in bikinis are good.
-
Disagree with your "role model vs advertising" premise. I suggest that James Dean, Don Johnson and their Hollywood/television succesors brought more young people to smoking than Joe Camel.

Off White, Here's a story for you and Mattp: A family friend of ours is a state water quality big-wig down in Olympia. I recently saw him at a gathering and as we hadn't seen each other for some time, we had some good conversation. He has two sons, aged 18 and 19. The 19 year old is a student at Evergreen State College, and the 18 year old.... joined the US Marines on Sept 12, 2001. ...Same upbringing, different result! Go figure.

so hippies would be stupid to have identified with the ideals of Donovan, Joplin and Hendrix but we'd be smart to heed Zappa's words? Is he some kind of bastion of thoughts in the western world or something? I did not think so. You are going to make a grumpy old fart some day. Joplin...dead; drugs Hendrix...dead; drugs(?) Morrison...dead; drugs Visionaries; yes. But they've got the blood of dead kids on their hands IMHO. ....ready for a flamin'...

Mattp, I still remember your Mount Washington E Face TR. It was great! And its on my short list. Some common ground is always good. Thanks.

Iain, Don't you believe in "voting with your pocketbook"? Why would I pay for my son or daughter to attend a college that condones, or attempts to instill a doctrine with which I disagree? I can tolerate, and even admire well thought out rebellion from my children! But not when it has been hammered into them by a left wing teacher/professor. Like I said before, education...not indoctrination.
