  1. Another of my favorite NPR tactics.... "Palestinian sources said"..... "Israeli sources then claimed".... also, Democrats have "colleagues".... Republicans have "lieutenants".... this one was made famous during the Newt Gingrich era.
  2. Rush Limbaugh has been off the air since last Friday. (In rehab, ya know.) Could you explain how you were able to hear him on Tuesday? I've never heard anyone refer to Tim Russert as a conservative. Or a liberal, for that matter. Basically, he is the quintessential moderator. Rush may be in a cushy rehab center, but the show must go on. I would imagine that the producers and Rush chose someone to stand in that had views consistent with the show and the listeners. I guess Tim was "moderating" the show then and was sticking to the conservative line... And the WTO...if you're refering to the Seattle incidents from a few years ago, I find that hard to call recent given all the events in the past year. Wrong, Enmenic! You clearly stated that you listened to Rush Limbaugh on Tuesday. He has not been on the radio. Neither has Russert filled in for him. (Nor can I imagine he ever would!)
  3. Mattp, as usual, you have conveniently forgotten how you constantly compare the mainstream media to talk radio. Have you addressed my comparison; entertainment versus news? Have you replied to the statement I put forth about talk radio's admitted bias vs NPR's claim of neutrality? No. Instead you take a quick hop back to the FOX argument, which I have already admitted is biased to the right. Before you accuse me of singular/convenient replies, you had better check your own practices. You are a master at this. Now regarding the idea that FOX doesn't treat its liberal leaning guests with respect, I disagree. If you watch their news analysis, such as Brit Hume's show (I forget what it's called) the panel includes all sides of the political spectrum, including NPR anchors! If you are referring to the entertainment wing of FOX, such as Bill ORielly or Hannity/Colmes, I see no difference in the level of angst vs CNN Crossfire, or Cudlow/Cramer. I will agree however, that ALL cable news' mixture of hard news/entertainment can be confusing to the uninformed. (And yes, there are a lot of uninformed out there.) The real issue is not the content of the reporting in the national media, but rather the inclusion/ommission factor. When I go to FOX's web-site I will see stories that are of interest to me as a conservative, not just the gloom and doom of the rest. I will see the successes and failures in Iraq, not just the grim "tally" of dead American soldiers, and then on to how promising unemployment numbers are actually bad. As you probably have figured out, I am somewhat of a news junkie. (Drives my wife nuts!) I watch/listen to/read pretty much all sides. And the side I like best is the side that presents the stories that I find interesting, including NPR. Frankly Matt, I think you don't like FOX news, because it doesn't fit your view of how the world should be.
  4. KING 5 news just reported that Hwy 20 is closed by a mudslide and will remain closed for the winter. This is the earliest the hwy has ever been closed. Seems kinda strange to me.
  5. Dori Monson is my personal favorite! You're correct, he's right-of-center. And getting farther right every year. Dave Ross is very left of center IMHO. The two balance each other nicely though. I've never listened to KJR. (Do you mean KVI?)

  7. ??? I think you've twisted/misquoted me. I compared the hysterics of today's left with the past hysteria of radical right-wing groups such as the Michigan militia. I refer to WTO protests/(ers) as exibit A.
  8. Teh belt is likely encountering resistance from the PS drive pulley because of a bad bearing. Remove the belt and grab the PS pulley with your hand. Pull it back and forth vigorously...there should be no play whatsoever. If there is, it is probably a bad bearing. (or a stripped drive shaft) You may be able to replace the bearing, depending on the type of pump/availability. Otherwise, replace the entire unit for $$$. As for the leaks, you could try to stop steering so much!
  9. Fair enough. I know this has been posted befor, but I would say it shed light on this issue. Liberal vs. Conservative, Left vs. Right, Thinking vs. Reactionary, one wat to judge a news organization is determine its listeners/viewers/readers ability to judge realitiy. A recent poll indicates that 80% of frequent FOX news views have one or more major misconceptions about the war in Iraq whereas only about 23% of NPR listeners hold these same beliefs. To the extent that any of these news source tell the truth NPR is much closer to it than most and FOX as way out there. link You can argue that the study was conducted by the "liberal media" but if you accept it, its hard not to admit more liberal the media the less biased they are. Good lord! "Truth Out.com" is your personal information source these days? I propose that you have no business bashing FOX if you get even a portion of your news diet from a site like that. Additionally I propose, that contrary to your statement, those on the left are more reactionary than thinking as demonstrated by their recent hysterics which rival those of the Michigan Militia!
  10. Mods can only ban users, and mods aren't on the user list...like you are sucker. Matt and I are equal in terms of mod power. Damn! I wanted you to ban Matt.
  11. What do you call a prostitute with a runny nose?
  12. Matt's not gonna' let you wax n' shine his boots anymore if you don't cool it, AK. Question: Can one moderator ban another moderator? (Or are you and PP kinda' like a second leutenant, and Mattp and OW like colonel?) That would really liven it up! Wouldn't it?
  13. Good point RobBob. That would be an exception. Most (but not all) rescuees are deserving of a good spraying at the very least.
  14. For what it's worth Matt, you're right. I think trashing someone's TR is bullshit. The Mt. Hood snowcat post is a classic example of this practice. (I felt bad for the poor guy who posted a perfectly valid report.) Keep the spray out of the TR section. Now, about your politics......
  15. NPR portrays itself as unbiased news. It's ad sponsors are a veritable "who's who" of liberal and left wing foundations, (ie: The Pew Charitable Trust) ... with the exception of the American taxpayer! None of the conservative radio talk shows try to claim political neutrality, and none of them are "news" shows. They are up-front, provacative, and a nice addition to the national debate. Micheal Medved actually takes calls almost exclusively from opposing points of view and, of course, challenges them. Rush Limbaugh is primarily entertainment, with witty political satire. It is a hilarious show! ....but then, most who bash him have probably never actually listened to his full show, and merely rely on snippets and out of context quotes, fourth-hand, for their spoon-fed opinions. Sean Hannity is basically a juvenile idiot, with little in the way of debating skills or brains. Pure garbage. Bill ORilley is interesting and somewhat more balanced in his views, but his "know-it-all" attitude wears thin. (As opposed to Limbaugh's, which is always tounge-in-cheek.) Micheal Savage is beyond redemption. An extreme right winger in every sense. Don't forget Dave Ross (local) on KIRO AM....liberal. Also Mike Webb on KIRO....leftist. There are others too. The AM dial is not 100% "conservative". Regardless, talk shows are not news! (You seem to have a hard time with this concept, Matt.) FOX is surely right-leaning.....because there is a market for it. But they are no more right-of-center than CBS, NBC, ABC are left-of. Why is it, in the media, that conservatives are perfectly happy being called just that, while liberals never want to reveal or admit to such? Or they rename themselves "progressive" or some other innocuous label? Why is it that liberals are always the first to cry out for censorship (ie: talk radio) when they hear views with which they disagree? BTW Matt, I finished Blinded by the Right the other day. I'll let you know my thoughts soon. For now, I'll just say it was a good bathroom read. Really helped me with my nightly purge. Also, Kudos to CC.com for "promoting" PP to moderator. It's nice to have someone here to counter the views of another- certain-moderator who's name I shall not mention.
  16. Rainier Las Vegas Marathon Cotopaxi?
  17. This country has always had military leaders who felt they had a "greater calling" religious or otherwise. Patton, McArthur, Teddy Roosevelt, Grant, Sherman, Jackson (CSA) etc, etc. For the most part, with the possible exception of McArthur, they followed their orders as given. It seems a certain amount of eccentricity is a pre-requisite for the job. But it is the duty of the President to ensure their loyalty (to the constitution), to reign them in, or demote/retire them. This guy probably needs a "sit-down" with his superiors and a stern reminder of where his loyalties must lie. You want to talk about a goofy-assed general, do some research re Wesley Clark. The guy is scary. Too bad Dwayner isn't here to participate in this thread... Seriously.

All Seattle city dwellers are liberals. Everyone knows that!

Seattle liberals bitchin' about, and evading the very tax they imposed upon themselves via direct democracy! I LOVE it! Hey Seattle residents....Pay your tax! You voted for it. BTW, the "rest of us", in this otherwise great state, don't want to pony up 13 billion $$$ for your new Alaska Way Viaduct. Please vote yourselves a tax on that one too....or just tear the thing down.
  21. Sunday night I ordered a new pair of AT skis (K2 8611's) from "Cascade Crags" via one of the new sponsorship links here on CC.Com. I feel I got a good price, and the skis arrived FedEx at my door this afternoon, less than 48 hours after placing my order. Just thought I'd give a big to Cascade Crags and to the whole advertising/links idea. Now I have to figure out which bindings to mount on my new boards!
  22. Oh, sorry I guess I missed the part when Bill Clinton said he admired Hitler. My bad! Actually, Clinton's stated mentor and object of his admiration was William Fulbright, avowed segragationist and communist sympathizer. BTW, better check your info regarding Schwarzeneger's supposed Hitler comments. I believe they've been debunked.
  23. Now that Arnold has apparently won the governorship of California, who wants to bet that the Dem's, either directly or through a proxy, will challenge the results or the constitutionality of this recall election? Question #2: How many anti-Arnold stories will The LA Times run in the next 365 days?
  24. It seems to me that simple single antenna, analog transceivers are outrageously overpriced. (Pieps, Ortovox F1, etc) They are such simple devices, I can't imagine why they still fetch $200 - $300 in a free market. Frankly, I wonder if the prices are "fixed". I'm sure the R&D costs associated with this dated technology is no longer a factor in justifying the currently asked retails. Especially since there seems to be a migration toward the dual antenna models. After taking Paul Bauger's avy classes up at Crystal a few years back, I came to the following conclusion: Any avy forcast above "moderate", means I stay home or go lift skiing. If I doubt things enough to dig a pit, I probably shouldn't be there in the first place. Not a fool-proof system, but hey.......I wanna liiiivvve!
