  2. Coulda been a Bushwhacker - they're screwy!
  3. So I really really wanna go to the City of Rocks this summer. Driving me crazy - I really wanna go. So my buddy calls me up, says Hey, lets go to Cirque of the Towers in WY. Pingora, Warbonnet, etc. He says we'll use llama's to carry our gear 'n stuff, which sounds really great (we must be gettin' old). I dont think I have enough vacation time to do both. If I choose the City then I gotta find a partner, and I'm not certain that I can find someone that is climbing at about my level that wants to go. The C of the T trip is easy - all I gotta do is show up. What to do? Its a great problem to have, at least.
  4. Thanks man! And thanks to those that made it to the fundraiser - we gathered quite a pile of dough. I delivered it to TPL a couple hours ago. Hopefully that will put them over the top.
  5. At the risk of repeating myself... We're crossing the McKinley River on our way to climb Mt Brooks. The riverbed under my feet gives way and suddenly three of us are swimming in the torrent. We clambored up onto a sandbank - beat up, coughing, cold and scared. The relief of immediate survival is followed by the discouraging sight of my backpack floating downriver, around a bend, and out of sight...
  6. Damnation Been there lots of times - yuk.
  7. Damn thats a cool pic of karate crack... I have a meeting to go to that night, I think I'll have to miss this one - dang!
  8. My buddy Frederic brought his Weber over, so if you want you could bring something to toss on the grill. A friend of mine pointed out that there is another event tomorrow night, the movie Return2Sender, which sounds really great. For those of you that wish to go to the movie first then come to the fundraiser, thats cool - our house will be open late. Doxey
  9. Back from Smith had fun! If you havent already, I hope you will donate $25 to TPL and I hope you will plan to come to my fundraiser party. The plan is to drink beer, see old friends and make new ones, and talk about climbing and mountains and such. Thats the plan. Dox
  10. I'm headin' out to Smith/Bachelor for a week. More about this when I return! Doxey
  11. Inspired by the Washington Climbers Coalition, the Bushwhacker Climbing Club invites everyone and their brother to a Homebrew/Potluck Fundraiser for TPL's Sam Hill effort. Please join me and my lovely wife Cynthia Tuesday evening April 26 at our house on Phinney Ridge. Please note that this is a fundraiser. Send $25 to TPL and bring your receipt (the thank you card is good) for entry to the party. You could bring a check that night made out to TPL, but it would be better to send it in now directly to TPL, then just bring your receipt. You could also bring cash that night and I'll see that it gets to TPL. We'll have a couple kegs of homebrewed ale (its fermenting in my kitchen right now), and I'll go get another keg from Hales if that runs out. The Bushwhacker club will provide support in the form of cups and plates and tarps for the backyard. You should bring potluck stuff to share - something from the deli section, Chinese takeout, PB&J sammiches, a bucket of KFC, HC - whatever you want. I realize that the date for this gig is only two days from the cutoff for TPL's option for the land. But its the time that works for me, so there you go. I look forward to seeing familiar cc.com'ers and also meeting a bunch of new people - and dont forget to bring your brother! I'm so excited.

Reminds me - a few years ago there was a story in the paper. Four guys in New York state got all lubricated with liquor and decided to have a go at the Lake Placid ski jump in the dude's bass boat. They carried it up there after midnight and they did it! The article ended with a quote from the local sheriff: "They were released from the hospital into the custody of their wives."

  14. Drat. I can never make the images show up directly in a post. Anyway, go to Seths site and you'll see the image of mama griz and her young'uns. Dox
  15. 'Tis a bummer about the junk on the Jago. I also saw some junk on the trip I put together a few years ago. But we also saw this: These bears were right on the border of the 1002 area. That image from Seth Pollack Photography: http://www.pollackphoto.com/us/ak/arcticrefuge/default.htm
  16. Alaska's Brooks Range runs east-west forming a continental devide. Rivers on the north side of the devide definitely run north to Beaufort Sea (Arctic Ocean). Rivers on the south side flow south then west via Yukon River to Bering Sea (Pacific Ocean). geo map of AK Boy do I feel like Cliff Claven.
  17. Sounds about right. HC aint light!
  18. My check is in the mail
  19. As many of you know, one year ago my friends and I founded the Bushwhacker Climbing Club. The club is going great so far - 67 members, and our glacier course was a big success. Our newest offering is a telemark ski class - its gonna be great! This is a beginner class - for real beginners - and its tele- specific. If you, or someone you know, would like to make some friends, have some fun, and learn to tele-, this is a great opportunity! Here is a brochure for the class. PM me for more information, or just go to the BWCC website to obtain the application and send it in. Doxey
  20. Good stuff Jon. Thanks everybody, that was fun.
  21. I'm going to be there tonight - yay, looking forward to it! If anyone is from outta town and you need a place for the evening, you're welcome at my house. I don't live near Schultzy's though. I live on Phinney Ridge - prolly taking a cab home. But anyway, there is an unused couch and futon at my place. See y'all, Doxey
  22. Never tried Hunter but I have been in the Kahiltna neighborhood in early June. Conditions were right on for cramponing. 'Course one needs skis or snowshoes for the flats but the climbing was all about cramponing. I've only been to Kahiltna Gl. once but it was early June and it was really good conditions (until we got hammered by storm but hey that happens).
  23. I mean, in Seattle - not Western - sorry. D
  24. I brought that projector. I used it just last week at a party I had. Its works and all but you know, its just too bad about the image quality. I looked at the same slideshow later on the computer and boy it looked ten thousand times better than the projected image. There may be some other digital projector out there in cc.com-land that is better. Otherwise I'd be willing to use this one again for the Mongolia slideshow. Doxey
