  1. I've adopted gapertimmy's xtremo pond skimmer dude image, but just for this week. I'm sure he'll want it back soon...
  2. http://www.altitudeslickness.com/photos/051004/ Spent this morning truckin' up Teneriffe, via the SW ridge - Super hike, and exponentially more fun than Si. I had asked around some time ago if anyone is interested getting out before work, and those of you who responded, I'll be in touch this week. I'll be heading up Mt. Washington on Wednesday, bright and early if anyone's interested in coming along - pm or email me. Just wanted to share some fun pics and bask in the glow of having done something somewhat interesting before work this morning...
  3. Thanks for asking what I've been thinking lately - It's been a long time since I've had a chance to get out and a few of these options should shake the moths out a bit... BTW, if anyone would like to tackle the Tooth or something similar in the next week or so, let me know... Trogdor, make sure you share a TR when you get back, yeah?
  4. So here's the deal. My weekends are non-existent because of work and school, but the light at the end of the tunnel should appear in full force around the middle of June. Until then, early mornings here in the Snoqualmie Valley are my only respite from the day to day whoo-haw. I'd like to hook up with a handful of people who'd like to get out in the AM before work starts, at least 3-4 times a week - Little Si, 38, Das Toof, trail runs, scrambles, bike, whatEVER. No alpine start is too early, but I figure we'd have like 4-5 hours to get a head start on things. I lead 5.9 trad/sport (it's been a while), struggle up 10's (that ends THIS YEAR DAMMIT) and have gear, rope and car. Evenings are usually no good (at least right now) because of family commitments and projects and homework, but as June approaches, that should change as well. If you're up for it, or any other like-minded excursions please let me know - seth AT untickalock.com, or find me on msn messenger - setnei AT hotmail.com ps: If we get enough people, I'll make t-shirts. -------------------------- http://www.untickalock.com http://www.altitudeslickness.com (TR's and pics coming soon) --------------------------------
  5. Boy, did you ever sum it up. These blue days, and even the rainy ones lately have me just completely frazzled from spring fever. I usually lurk like crazy on this board, and only recently came back to daily visits. The trip reports and the Madness That Is CC.com has really inspired me to get the lead out and take care of that dusty tick-list this summer. My training program is in full swing, my rack is out of the garage and sorted, and I'm taking the summer off from school to celebrate my climbing re-birth. It's been about 3 years since I did anything much bigger than a random afternoon at 38, but that ends shortly. Anyone up for the Tooth next week before work sometime? no, seriously...

I think the issues they put forth on the site are pretty reasonable as to why sticking the lab up there isn't a good idea. With the risks to the water supply and the possible negative effects on tourism/economy/climbing for the next who-knows-how-long, it just doesn't sound like an optimal solution for anyone. There's got to be better places out there...
  7. Some add'l research turned this up: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/00041.html and I'll be picking up the Mark Twight book this evening... Can't believe I'd missed that!
  8. Cool. I'll give it a shot and see what happens... I know a buddy is bringing the Whisperlite, so I thought this would be a good chance to do some experimentation. If I do blow anything up, I'll be sure to get some good pics...
  9. So I picked up a Snow Peak Gigapower stove at Second Ascent last fall, and haven't had a chance to use it in the cold yet. I'm heading up to Paradise this weekend to do some snowshoeing, and wondered if anyone could offer some advice as to how best utilize this little beast... From what I've been able to find, these kinds of stoves are not at their best in cold temps. When I picked it up at Second Bounce though, the guy mentioned something about using a coil of copper tubing as a heat conductor to keep things hopping in the cold... Would anyone be able to offer any more details on that? Thanks
  10. My sister's down there today grabbing goodies and taking pics... I'll see if I can post up some details when she sends it. Whoop!
  11. Just saw the man at REI tonight... Lots of people, and Joe signed lots of autographs... Seemed like a nice guy, good sense of humor, and was pretty forthright in how the whole experience has changed him and how lucky he's been in the way his life's gone since Peru. The climbing comp was a speed match between pairs up the rock - if you stayed to watch, you probably didn't get in to see the presentation- the line to get into the conference room was reminiscent of the old garage sale lines out on the sidewalk... Fun evening, and looking forward to the film.
  12. I've got it on eBay right now, and just realized this Yard Sale feature might get some more eyes on it. Nothing wrong with it - I was fortunate enough to get a new Arc'teryx Theta from my wife, so with some reluctance I'm offering my Torre Jacket (XL, cobalt) to the masses. If I had remembered about this place, I would have just thrown it out here first for $150, but any takers will have to squabble amongst themselves via bidding war. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15677&item=3452023792 If anyone has any questions, just PM or email me...
  13. I'll try and see if I can track down any information, or at least start to monitor the thing and see if there's a pattern or something. I live just at the base of the hill there so it's no biggie to drive up and check it out...
  14. i can verify the rattlesnake lake bouldering - it was accessible a couple of months ago but the waters still pretty high - you could do a swimming start if you wanted... anyone want to go stand in line at 38 this weekend?
  15. A tattered copy of Kon-Tiki is one of only a handful of books that has permanent resident status on my nightstand... What a great example of courage and standing up for one's dreams...
  16. i use a little tripod from rei that velcros to my ice axe/ski pole/tree limb, but it's pretty light-weight- i can't put my SLR on there unless it's sitting upright with the legs extended... it's perfect though for a digital or a point-n-shooter. i've also used a good sized beanbag/hackysack for putting a camera down on a log...
  17. things were actually a bit more expensive compared to previous garage sales... the girl at the checkout said this is the first time she thought the prices were "fair"... Fair? It's a frickin' garage sale... what else were they going to do with all that crap? but enough complaining, i picked up some cheap trail runnies, day hikers, and brand new marmot bibs for under 80 bucks...
  18. not really - i have a "tentative" list about 7 people long, so it's technically filled... sorry. it might not be *that* great of a number anyway- since they only let (ahem) 200 or so in there at a time, and worst case everyone in front of me has 4-5 people on the ticket, that could be a loo0o00o0o00ong morning. we'll see what, if anything, i can drag out of there.
  19. Anyone going? Who grabbed a decent number? we picked up a 4 person ticket (#307)...
  20. i'm itching to get outside again after a looong hiatus- (we had a baby) and all my old partners are back east- i lead up to 5.9 trad and can follow probably 10a (it's been a while) - if someone wants to hook up in the gym or elsewhere i am sooo ready. i'd like to get out a lot this summer and cross out some fun alpine routes from my dusty ol' tick-list as well - maybe even a volcano or three? i have car, rope, gear, tunes. email me- seth@untickalock.com
