I agree with Matt 100%. Climbing for me is about fun, meeting new people, and being outside. I have ran into more then my fair share of mean-spirited people in the out of doors, but the majority of hikers, climbers, and mountain bikers seem to be fairly mellow, down to earth people. I actually hope to be considered one of those myself, and try to surround myself with those types also. Life is too short to hang out with ASSHOLES! p.s. Matt, it was great to hear about your some of your adventures, and a pleasure to meet you. To Everyone at Hatties- Can' wait til next week! ALKI?

I think that REI is good for some stuff, I had a little problem with the shank (yes the shank, steel even) breaking in my older leather mountaineering boots. I paid full price for them, REI ended up reimbursing me for the boots. I really didn't want the money, I just wanted boots so I went back and bought another pair of boots and I was happy. I still shop mainly at mountaingear, they rock. anyway just my nickel (and at REI Iget 15% back)

ertical World staff needs some training on customer relations
hikerwa replied to Cpt.Caveman's topic in Climber's Board
I've had good experiences at StoneGardens. I don't really go there as much as in the winter, but they are reasonably priced, and they're a pretty friendly bunch (aside from the usual prima donna gym rats). -
I have been extremely lucky to climb with very knowledgeble semi retired mountain guides. I have climbed with several people who have been climbing for 20 or more years and have been all over the world and enjoy passing on experience to a young upstart. I have also enjoyed a mostly trial and error route to rock climbing. I think that a mixture of all of the above have let me learn a great deal more than I would have learned by taking a course. I have used many techniques of glacier travel and rescue on the mountains in real situations. I think that any way that a person learns is good as long as it's with someone who knows better and is safe and fun! just my nickel.

I'm sorry, you're right. Spray Lord, I don't know what I was thinking to question you.
-
wow, I gotta chime in here. Spray Lord is the type of climber and person we should all strive to be. Courteous, helpful, kind and tolerant. I think that we could all lern a lesson here, climbing is about more that being out in the mountains with your friends and having a good time. It's about being an asshole and condemning other climbers for not being on "par" with themselves. I'm sure that most of the pro climbers such as ed viesturs, greg child, conrad anker to name a few would appreciate and condone this attitude. Bravo, Spray Lord! I can't wait to meet you on a route, I'm sure to be atounded by your skill and courage.

Beck, 70 bones is not much considering we get honey buckets! I have been back into the site and it is fairly private and away from most of the other sites...and there is lots of climbing and bouldering within walking distance! Let's get together this weekend and check it out!

Beck, got your email, I will send you one later tonight.

sounds interesting

oops, "Good" judgement

Does anyone know what happened to mountainzone/quokka. I was covering a 24 hour mountain bike race at the Subaru gorgegames and they sponsored at team? I thought that maybe they were being resurrected from the dead...

Jolly Roger Ale. It's made in ballard by the Maritime Brewery and only available around christmas (on nitrogen). After about three it's lights out!
