  1. Your kidding right? With highs in the 40s all week, and lows in the mid thirties go right ahead and make the drive. I personally would choose not to waste the gas and do something else instead.
  2. Last year we spend most of christmas getting drunk in my living room. By about 9pm we were getting a little restless so we all went for a walk around the neighborhood. We found a really obnoxious lighted nativity scene with Joeseph holding his hands above Jesus and Mary on her knees on the other side. We all knew what had to be done. So we got jesus out of the way and unplugged his lights and moved Mary and Joeseph a little closer together to create a much more heartwarming scene. I will now make this a christmas tradition. I have some pictures I will post later.
  3. Yea pay special attention to Item #1 on that web page. "Choose a flexible schedule and when the weather breaks, go for it. Because of the fickle winter weather, scheduling a climb of Rainier to coincide with decent conditions is the major challenge. I suggest a fluid approach to scheduling the climb. Historically, every year from late January through mid-February, a high-pressure ridge builds across the region, thwarting the usual marine frontal systems. Gather your climbing companions and choose a ñweather windowî several weeks long. Alert employers (or employees) well ahead of time that you will need to take off suddenly, and then keep an eye on the weather. When the forecast looks great, sunny for 3 or 4 days in a row, go for it. " Chances are that the weather will suck on 19-22 of Jan. And if the weather does not suck then the avalanche conditons will be high. You thread title should be "Join for Rainier climb sometime in Jan-Feb. ?
  4. Whats that thing next to the plumb? I dont have a guide book with me. Anyone know if thats in?

Never working for the evil empire again.
  7. Yes it is on private property. Anyone know what the access issues are?
  8. Are the larger flow climbs in yet? Nite-n-Gale, Michelmoon, honeyman? ANyone know?
  9. Hmmmmm. Not like we have not seen this thread before, but since you asked... Savage Arena
  10. Im just reading this now, but that was me you ran into.
  11. Alpine: North Face of Mt. Hood Scenery Storm over Mt. Triumph
  12. Use this link. Most of the suggestions on this page are easy and it really does work. I spent about a half hour 2 or more years ago, and I get very little junk mail now. http://www.obviously.com/junkmail/
  13. We found a few small bits a couple of years ago no more than 50 meters from camp on picket pass. We were very baffeled about how they got there. So yes it sounds like the Navy cleaned up the crash site.
  14. So can anyone give me a little beta on what climbing either one of these peaks this time of year might be like. I will be down there for the next couple of weeks and these seem like reasonable objectives given the limited time frame I will have. Are the routes so strait forward that they could be done in poor weather conditions? (I dont mind a little snow)
  15. I dont remember the specifics, but it was for some type of bench chemist job. Organic synthesis of some type. I think on organic dyes, but I dont really know.
  16. My first job interview out of college was a place called molecular probes in Eugene. At the end of this several hour interview the HR lady informs me that the pay was 14. I said $14/ hour? She said no $14k a year. I informed her I could make more working at Burger King part time. Fuckers only did the interview so they could prove to imigration that they could not hire an american for that price. I should have realized this when I spent the first interview asking they interviewer to write it down because I could not understand what the hell he was saying.
  17. Most of the people I worked with in the software field have science degrees. I would guess it was about 50/50 computer science/other science at microsoft.
  18. Anyone I know who graduated in Chemistry left the field because they wanted to make some money. Chemistry has to be one of the only degrees where if you continue your education past a batchellors degree you are destined to make less money.
  19. Right on it was good to meet you. Yea that ridge on bathtub dome was good in a 5.7 runout in the rain sort of way. In addition we decided to get on the route I cleaned last year in the gully between the ridge we were on and where you were to get a better idea of the rating. In the process I got a brand new #2 camalot stuck trying to protect the roof move. So if anyone wants a free cam and is very good at getting out stuck gear go get it. Its the first cam I have ever lost and it hurt pretty bad to let that one go. It is in a crack on a 4 foot horizontal roof on an east facing wall on bathtub dome. It is pretty obvious if you are on the trail to condor buttress just below bathtub dome.
  20. Just a feature to look for suggestion... Large inner pockets that will easily hold either water bottles or bladders securly. Unless of course you are buying your down jacket so you can look cool belaying at the base of morning glory wall.
  21. I got yelled at a couple of years ago for removing all of the webbing off of the two large metolius rap bolts on the middle of the face. THere is no reason for there to be any webbing on this type of anchor. They are designed for rope to thread right through them. The next anchor below that has been a hazard for years, and needed removed. As far as I am concerned the only anchor that needs any webbing on that route is the top one to get you over the edge. Alternatively you could always walk off the back side.
  22. yes It was king county sherrif helecopter, and it just went over to boeing field. Oh and its just a Huey. Not real huge.
  23. ok just a little more info about what I need here... Basically I am planning on goin with someone who has a major issue with crossing rivers due to a scary incident a few years ago involving being pined to a log. She will not cross the river if it is more than about knee deep. I do not want to hike all the way in there if there is no way to get across that is acceptable to her. So if anyones got any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  24. Hey anyone know what the river crossing at the base of easy ridge looks like right now? Is there any log crossing, or othe way of crossing that does not involve wading throught the water?
