  1. hey i live in chilliwack i will have to go check out these here hotties u mention
  2. privatized military is mercenaries you gonna have the french foreign legion deserters and dropouts from soldier offortune as the US military?
  3. there is no "exit point" you can "traverse in on" from the "east or south" unless you can solo A3+ nailing. the only places you can get on it are via the summit and a rap in, or via the bypass approach and a climb of ~8 pitches (yes, mossy and wet in places) up to 5.8
  4. zamberlan calanques is a little bit heavy for carrying up rock routes but otherwise rox. climbs alpine up to 5.8 fine so on many routes you will not need to wear rock shoes and carry approach shoes. more like a super light low top leather boot, than a hiking shoe. i would compare it to the lS trangos but not as spendy or as teched out. you can get em at MEC or anyway you could last year.
  5. i hate gtx shoes. first of all the seams usually leak. secondly in any conditions other than totally wet outside your feet get sweaty real fast and hence wet. seems like a method of promoting trench foot. if i want sweaty feet i wear plastic boots, better performance. goretex is usually only a method of adding $100 to the price tag of a shitty approach shoe to attract the gaper market. matches the seattle sombrero
  6. I predict Larry the Tool will show up and issue citations to everyone
  7. Its getting to the point it would require a Unimog. You can get in with a short wheelbase hc-pickup but I hope you have skid plate. Problem is the waterbars are deep and narrow and have ridges of the excavated material left. I nearly ripped the bumper off my gov't truck going up there once in my old job. The latest road report for Ashlu says: 2003.07.07 Marco Iucolino Road Update - A few of the many waterbars on this road are getting bad. A Jeep Cherokee was dragging its underside on a few of them. It is a real test of your suspension and off road driving skill. A shorter wheelbased 4x4 was better suited to the task. Crossing the bridge by vehicle at Shortcut Creek is no longer possible.
  8. jimmy crack corn ?!
  9. if i wanted to climb a route of that description i wouldnt have to drive down to washington to find it! we have plenty of vertical 5.7 heather and bushwacking in the fraser valley
  10. sweet!
  11. To climb some of the other peaks in the area and then ignore this one is why to some I would suspect. It's an imposing looking piece or work. All the other peaks in the vicinity don't have anything quite like the relief and the short approach.. If you see it yourself some day say- on your way to Forbidden for instance it helps. i have no quibble with the mountain but i wondered why mattp was saying a thousand foot moss gully was better route choice than a ridge crest. like, don't take the NE buttress crest of slesse, take the Beckey ramps - SOO Much more herbivorous!!!!
  12. and if you are in squamish in the rain you can go to murray's store (Valhalla Pure) and spray on cc.com for ALMOSTfree!
  13. pffft ice tool gets bomber sticks in heather! ditto crampooons or even approach shoes! self arrest with fingers!

    Eastern TR - Gunks

more to the point how does gunks climbing compare to another quartzite area say like back of the lake? i found b.o.t.l to climb very similarly to skaha in terms of style, of course it doesnt have skaha style soft grades, and the quartzite is lower friction/more slippery than skaha gneiss... i also heard the crags in revelstoke climb a LOT like the Gunks except the hard routes are mostly bolted there.reach out blindly over your head to the next rail and feel back and forth along it for the best hold...repeat...
  15. or that he was good at it!

  19. no longer a secret! although I heard they just locked the gates this weekend, so you gotta hike or ride 10km from the gate to the start of the bushwack.... im probably gonna go back there with Shaun to do at least one more line you can see (barely) in the face photo... once the bugs die and fire danger drops a bit and they will give us the key... Shaun thinks this is better than W face of Nesakwatch no more Rexford trail slogging I hate that trail with a passion
  20. ya he wants to do Fluted too. all the Canucks bailed on him so now he is willing to accept American partners
  21. once again the Telemarkpyrenees Barabees and so on Euro shops prove the superiority of lower Euro pricing caused by greater competitiveness.
  22. It's Ashlu and the road is a bitch to drive in on and the SW ridge is low-5th. The other (east) ridge is the standard route, class 2-3. See www.bivouac.com for more info.
  23. what about the subaru thief in Smith (although it coulda just been random cause half the cars in the lot are subarus there) and the car prowls in North Bend they ever catch anybody in those yet or do anything about it?
