its more like if you get a degree with a high gpa in any other field of study than the liberal arts, a better paid and more enjoyable field of employment than teaching awaits you - than what i take to be your point, which is that it's easy to hold down a high gpa taking basket weaving and sociology at college.

trihalomethane is made when disinfectants containing chlorine come in contact with dissolved organic carbon trihalomethane is a known carcinogen. acceptable drinking water levels of trihalomethane were recently revised downwards, i think the current level is 8 ppb. you might want to think about this before running some of that tea-coloured, Olympic Mountains water through your Miox pen system.

its the shape of asbestos particle that does the damage. chalk does not have the same problem AFAIK. however....viruses like chalk. viruses stick to chalk. breathing chalk-dusted air is like breathing in the spittle of everyone else in the gym. touching a chalked up hold and then touching it to a mucous membrane (rub your eye, pick your nose etc) is a quick transmission o virus to your body. wash hands alot whengym climbing. avoid touching bloodied chalk spots. dont share chalkbags. in this photo gym workers unload fresh chalk shipment from the truck for an upcoming comp

Actually, Dru, knowing your level of fitness, and if you actually left all that shit you carried in your pack, doing the Neve in a reasonable day, car to car is really not that hard. Holmes and I did the whole thing in 8-10 hours and really, it was a pretty casual day (and I am NOT in great shape, by any means!). Just pack for a day trip, and it becomes an easy day trip. Pack overnight shit, or even bivy shit, and... It is a much better day trip then an overnight. And knowing how to ski downhill isn't critical, since the only downhill bits are a little sidehilling into Ring Ck, and then the ski down into Sentinel Bay...and I suppose the icy hell run down the Barrier Trail, but by that stage, walking isn't a huge deal. Apparently the Whistler guys are thinking about doing the Spearheads twice in a day, so the Neve in a day even for hackers shouldn't be that big a deal. PS - doing the Neve from Garibaldi Lake is fun too, esp. without a car - that adds nicely to the challenge - but it is definately longer. Nice night time blitz/food-scarf at Sentinel Hut strategy from Stefan! nothing to do with level of fitness more like can't ski, new boots and new bindings combining to make a learning experience. stefan is still fast. it is those long legs.

there is no longer a physical excuse for not climbing 5.11 and 5.12 or up. there is only a mental excuse. gyms, the application of training experience and athletic knowledge have put these grades within the reach of Joe Average. as proof new climbers can crank off 5.12 after just a couple of months in the gym if they really want to. the key is the discipline to train successfully. that is why i say the main limitation is mental and not physical. personally training bores me so i accept my upper grade limit as based on my willingness to put in the hours on the crags.

5 entries found for genius. gen·ius ( P ) Pronunciation Key (jnys) n. pl. gen·ius·es Extraordinary intellectual and creative power. A person of extraordinary intellect and talent: “One is not born a genius, one becomes a genius” (Simone de Beauvoir). A person who has an exceptionally high intelligence quotient, typically above 140. A strong natural talent, aptitude, or inclination: has a genius for choosing the right words. One who has such a talent or inclination: a genius at diplomacy. The prevailing spirit or distinctive character, as of a place, a person, or an era: the genius of Elizabethan England. pl. ge·ni·i (jn-) Roman Mythology. A tutelary deity or guardian spirit of a person or place. A person who has great influence over another. A jinni in Muslim mythology. Ballet dance is like climbing. A physical skill. it can be creative but I wouldnt call a skilled dancer a genius any more than I would call Chris Sharma a genius, or my plumber a genius. Maybe I'd call the ballet dancer's choreographer a genius if the dance was really amazingly good.

waldorf is awsome! I checked it out before thing 1 started school. The cost was prohibative but it seems to me that the education is more interesting. as I read threw the schools information I could only think that I wanted to go to that school. I wish we could have swung it. I am willing to bet that is not the last time I say that as my kids go threw public education. muffy i am not saying necessarily you are doing this but i have seen some kids ruined in the past by the kid going to the school the parent wanted to go to rather than what was best for the kid. waldorf school, montessori school, alternative school, "strict traditional" uniformed religious school whatever

I can't let this one pass without comment. Being a genius is not the same being skilled at what you do. Marylou I bet you would never call your mechanic or your plumber a genius even if they fixed your drippy faucet or changed your timing belt in jig quick time no matter how "our world quantifies intelligence".

or you can just cut the rope and let crevasse bound partner rescue themselves and then become a famous author and movie star
