Beta SL is not that durable in my experience... nice and light though, yup. ArcTeryx is making a new Scholler/Goretex hybrid but it wont be available until winter 2002, i got to see a prototype at VIMFF I think, for ice, the Powershield items like MEC Pamir or Arcteryx Gamma, are the way to go. Just not for full on pouring rain or shower bath ice. Actually even my goretex got wet through when i tried happy boy though.... so..... nothing works!!!! Might as well just use $5 coated nylon!!

The Sumallo stuff is like 2500 feet of steep (55-60) snow and maybe 400 feet of ice and 100 mixed feet of crap rock covered in junk. But some of the lines there have more ice. Check out the deJong lines on Payne. Sounds good except for the 5.9 crux. As for the Cheam range check out my photos of the north side of those peaks on bivouac.com All that stuff stays good well into May. Except there may not be as much ice then

In good conditions Welch West Face takes 14h return with no skiing, from the Foley Creek bridge (or so it was reported to me) . South Ridge could likely be done in a similar time, or faster if you skiied or snowshoed up the road to Williamson Lake.
