Jerry Sanchez was in that group, and he came out safe and sound. Really scary to hear about an organized group going out in the backcountry during "considerable danger" conditions. With the recent history of wind, loading of the slopes, and all the snow that has dumped, it really makes me ask way too many questions. A tragic accident, my condolences to the family. I hope alot can be learned from this, I know I did.

we drove all the way up the road until 1/4 mile before the TH in his new toyota TRD which really kicks ass. Locking rear differential really helps, but a newer subaru made it up after we made trail on the road. We stuck pretty much to the regular trail until we got above the slide alder, and traversed some slopes which had already slid, really icy wind blown slabs. From there we headed up towards Sibley Pass staying on the left side of the slope Here is an image ascent in red, descent in blue

how was the skiing? Is it worth doing? Not that good, the avy conditions were marginal, with 1.5 feet of powder, and a 1.5 foot icy base, and on top of that was about 2 inches of windblown crust. Turns were hard to control with that crust, but sergio and craig were boarding so it wasn't as bad for them as it was for Jerry and I I would not go back up until conditions get better I did hear that green mountain was nice this weekend

Ski Report: Green Mountain (USGS Downey Mountain)
scot'teryx replied to scot'teryx's topic in North Cascades
Not sure what the avy conditions will be like up there, but this cold trend should settle some things - there was no previous base out there, so its all anchored ot the ground as we speak - as there was about 2.5 feet at the base of the main slope down from the summit. Probably alot more up there now. I think we are heading up to Hidden Lake Peak this weekend for some pow pow -
Left TH around 930am and hit snow in about 1 mile or less, patchy before that but the road approach is easy in a car, rough in a passenger car - real rocky About 1/2 foot of snow in the lower elevations, once out of the trees and near the pond or lake it is deep, about 1-2 feet. Summit was reached around 1130am and was cold and windy while most of the hike up was nice, with some suckerholes here and there. We has some okay turns up high, but they got better the further down we went on the slope. About 2-3 foot base on most of the slope. Yo-yo'd the slope once and hiot a gully far right that had good protected snow. Back down to the car by 4pm. Good Times

I like my Scarpa Lasers, but I have heard from some that have the Lowa that they dont offer as much support as the Lasers. The new Dynafit TLT 700 Alpine Touring Boots w/Thermaflex Liners look sweet, but all I know is that they are superlight As a hint, try the www.thebackcountry.net - I got all my gear from them - cheap because they were demos.

Taken from Ruth last Saturday (12/8) Probably doesn't help you, but it sure looked cool Does the North Face route ascend on the far right hand skyline that is out of view?

It would have been fun, but we left them behind Saw three other guys that day from Vancouver who did bring their skis

I agree with the Dell users I have a Dell Inspiron 4000 thats about a year old and have had no problems with it (with a stable OS - win 2000 pro) and an older Dell Dimension XPS 6000t, and my newer dimension 8100. I have also purchased many of the refurbished computers for friends and clients as well with no grievances. The dont have integrated components, so you can always upgrade w/no problems - compaq, Hp, and gateway do integrate most of the time. As far as Mac products go, they are probably good as well, but I have tried not to make the switch thus far and have remained victorious. Dell also has the free shipping once in awhile, and has a sweet bundled setup now that included a flatscreen monitor. Good luck

Thanks for all the info, more than I can comprehend for sure. Where else in Western Washington can you find this type of rock? "Orange Wall"
-
Does anyone know what kind of rock that is? Coolest climbing in that whole area for sure
