    I say we ban...

What you are really saying is that Jon and Timmy should make it so that no one can hide their identity. That is, remove the option "Do you want to be visible on the 'Who's Online' screen? " I see your point. I'm having trouble seeing what the issue is here. How is the fact that people have chosen to keep themselves shielded impinging upon you in any way?

    Got Parasite?

Guess the little buggers don't want their host to die of CVD! They're keeping you away from dairy fat.
  3. I see no reason to prove yourself correct to the teacher. Sure maybe the teacher should have just said, "oh, that's interesting" and not made a pronouncement of truth over something he/she didn't know about. But, shit, teacher's lives are hard enough without having to duel with some parent over an insignificant textbook. Let it go. Your kid knows you're correct. Isn't that all that matters? Seriously, what good can possibly come of showing up this teacher. You think you're gonna get a gold star or something? And JoshK, why should he call the teacher an idiot? Would that make you feel (self) important or something? It's one thing to be a dick on CC.com (it's basically required) but to export it to your child's classroom is f*cking idiotic.

    Got Parasite?

Then perhaps they should be reclassified as symbiotic? This story was pretty interesting too!
  5. OK check this shit out. I did it for you Catbird!
  6. Your selfish attitude and lust for recognition will keep you out of the running. That winning combination seems to have worked for any number of climbers, but that's a nifty designation for mattp, maybe his description should change to "selfish and lusty" mommy So in the interests of competition what are these unplucked gems? Sloan NW Face (they'll be linign up) Triump N Face (they'll be lining up-not) Pyramid E Face (can heli's land there?) Slesse Coulior-of-Death (or whatever it's called) New York Gully Headwall Direct (does it go?) More winter ascents in the Pickets (a local climber has evidently be trying the north side of McMillan for years, supposedly a fine line!?) Dru's North Face of Old Settler looks accessible, pretty damn sweet and BIG! Wasn't some dude claiming to attempt a winter solo of Thin Red Line, derivative but bold cough it up With the untimely death of Ben Manfredi will the extreme sking void be filled? Last couple years might one day be seen as a golden age of this genre. What big descents are left? Will someone ski Triple Couliors or the TC-N Face link up? Northeast Coulior of Goode is doable and needs to be done. What else? Anyone ever seen the Beowolf Coulior on Bonanza? If you mean the original aid crack, its been freed at MHard. Alex I've never been on the route, in fact I've never seen the route. I mean the big rock headwall that sits above the climb and is skirted on the right. Jim Nelson makes some reference to it as a challenge for future climbers..blah, blah, blah. Am I the only fool around here willing to openly discuss unclimbed lines, projects, etc.? Come on folks cough em up! Of course it will. Ben had lots of buddy's that were coconspirators in his crazy adventures. I fully expect these guys to keep the torch moving. For some reason I still don't buy that TC hasn't been skiied. It's so completely accessible and such an obvious line. Besides that it frankly isn't that hard of a ski. I guess it's just hard to believe with all the good skiiers around here that nobody has done it. Is that what it means? Really!? I thought for some reason it had more to do with going into the unknown and against all odds, you prevailed and made your objective. If everything worked out okay, you might have tapped into your inner self to bring out the best in you. Huh, what do I know? You probably know better than I. Surely none of this requires being the first ascender. None of this requires keeping quiet about your goal. continue...
  7. fair enough what about tendonitis? I remember that but I don't go to an emergency room for it. I still fail to see any clinical relevance in classifying injuries, unless maybe they're relatively hidden ones, in which case this survey might help with diagnosis. I guess it might help also in terms of staffing an ER in Boulder or Joshua Tree.
  8. What's wrong with actors using their positions to soapbox? I can understand how you might not like particular actors' or anybody's views, but why should an actor keep quiet because he's an actor? You think that's some unfair advantage?
  9. It says he's a climber. So I guess it depends on whether he's a sport climber or not.
  10. You only have to specify 3 so you can pad your total and not really get caught They gots a cool drug question too, no all of the above category though
  11. ON LEAD OR ON RAPELL?

  13. Holy shit! I never realized CC.com was such a tough-guy thing! I guess I have been seriously underestimating my cojones! Fucking 2000+ posts badass.
  14. CBS, thanks for the chat report !!
  15. Right! Here's to those guys for trying something that they knew would be difficult. But, if Dima's blaming the rangers for their problems, that would be lame. I could be wildly misinterpreting his comments though.
  16. Hey check it out on rec.climbing . Looks sorta like Dima is dissing on the Rangers at the end. Seems like he should be bitchin' at Layton for telling him it was all nice and shit up there
  17. What do you do with this one? "I can go but I gotta let you know that I haven't been out at all this year. I'll probably only be able to get up 5.[3 number grades lower than what you had wanted to get on] and then only if you lead all the pitches." Do you just blow them off? You already made the offer. I guess one could gain a little high ground on this problem by making the invitation more specific, "wanna go climb X?", so your invitation has a caveat.
  18. Could your last sentence be in error there? I think Pope's replies make that obvious. Turning a bit of the wilderness into an outdoor gym does intrude on some peoples' experience. Sno Pass area is a very popular place for climbers and non-climbers to play. If "Bryant Buttress" or whatever they are renaming it is turned into a devegetated hard-packed mud climbing gym a la Exit 38, Little Si, or Index Lower Town Wall that will be a shame and it will intrude on others' experience. The arguments in this thread mostly seem to attempt to devalue these peoples' worth as critics. Ragging on Pope because he doesn't climb as hard as Erik's or Glassgowkiss's friends is an obvious attempt to do this. If Pope doesn't climb hard enough to climb these routes then he's not qualified to critique their impact on the area? I guess then that the views of people who don't climb at all probably really doesn't mean shit eh? Well, at least if they are against this new little outdoor gym anyway. There is some value to the argument that people who don't climb that stuff shouldn't critique it because they don't know exactly what they are missing without it, but that only goes so far. If your actions are affecting someone you should probably take their opinion into account. Just because you don't use your cell-phone when driving does not mean your opinion versus using a cell phone when merging into freeway traffic is valueless. I hope the fact that there's usually a bunch of snow at the base of these routes during their heavy use will mitigate the impact, so it doesn't start looking like Exit 38 or the base of Sagitarius.
  19. Shit Peter, your news is old! Isn't officially 8.2% now? I can see how a lot people dislike Bush (I do), but what he did heading over to Iraq is both a stand-up thing to do for the troops AND smart move from a political and militarily-tactics point of view. Gotta give credit where credit is due sometime.
  20. No way! You're telling me our founding forefathers were....(gasp)... COMMIES!!!?
  21. That's a pretty impressive resume. Who are these bolters? It's not Wallstein up bolting stuff up at Source Lake is it?
  22. chucK

    Danger Warning Signals

"I'm not a bigot but ..." "To be perfectly frank ..." "No offense but ... " and in terms of climbing, anytime you're approaching a lonely bolt with a bail biner on it.
  23. Don't worry, you will be getting up at 5am a lot , and 3am and 2am and 1am. Here's my standard tip for expectant parents. A very valuable attribute of any baby-care device is the ability to operate it with one hand.
  24. It's 5.7/5.8 guys. And the pro is good. You just need to improve your chimney technique. Although I can see if you're taller than 5.5 and #2 camalots are tight hands for you maybe it would feel harder. I don't think the Lizard chimney is hard (anymore), just seems like a lot of other people do. Of all the climbs I've heard excuses about, that is probably #1 . Where do you put a #2 camalot on that? You're not talking about Blockbuster being an advantage to being short are you? I think tall helps on that one. A lot of these climbs people are mentioning have a trick to 'em, like Blockbuster and Canary P1, and I guess even Lizard chimney. Once you figure out the trick the rating seems a bit more in line with the norm.
