🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh my, if this is the state of local journalism, well, we're in worse shape than I feared. Please please please tell me this was NOT a WWU grad. Kids who can't write good.

I know things are changing fast with the heat but I'm over in the area soon and was hoping for a climb. Thanks for any updates.

The exposed part just beyond had a very thin fixed line on it last year, end of July. Honestly looked like paracord 🤣

Hey Jon! Haven't logged in for ages but now I do and see I'm being talked about. We did the ridge route over to East Fury from Luna col because we thought it looked more interesting. We didn't rope up for the "crux tower" but we did rope up for a ~25-foot step a bit further along toward Fury as the exposure was significant so consequences would have been high. I don't remember it being particularly chossy and rubbly except for the last bit, which was reasonably low angle. We returned via #1 as we didn't want to redo the chossy bit and it also seemed like it would be easier and faster for the return trip.

[TR] Austera & Klawatti - Scramble routes 05/24/2025
Lucas Ng replied to Lucas Ng's topic in North Cascades
Transition between glaciers was just a steep lil snow step. Doable, just annoying. Had to take ski's off for it but still snow-covered when we did it. klawatti wasn't fully skiable(photo below) -

Haha. Yes, very foreshortened. I think the only place to see the "whole" mountain is from Beljica above Lake Christine. Not sure you can get there anymore as the road is closed? From inside the park, there are some views from below Round Pass--but the mountain is basically just a long cliff/ridge. A traverse from Lake Allen to Lake George would be VERY interesting! These are the best I can do from yesterday: -
Hello climbers! I've always wanted to go up there....but haven't. Thanks for the reminder that it is still on the list! I like how you didn't include a photo of the Mountain. -

WA taxes are high enough. It's all about what the politicians in Olympia prioritize - and it's NOT wilderness recreation and access!

[TR] Austera & Klawatti - Scramble routes 05/24/2025

Nice! I had hoped to do these peaks on skis this year but couldn’t get there in time. Was Klawatti already not skiable? Too bad about the mush and crevasses, that transition between Klawatti and N Klawatti glaciers looks like it must be the crux. -
When I was there in early July of last year I took #1 from Fury to Luna. It is briefly on the glacier. Crossed a rib at 6600’, bottoming out at 6400’ before reascending to the pass that rejoins the ridge line at 7000’. Was a bit steep and slippery crossing the rib. Think I’ve seen gpx that cross the rib a little lower. @tanstaafl might be able to comment on route #2

Last year we faced this going the opposite direction as well (fury to Luna col). And the section right before reaching the col was tricky. I think that’s what you’re talking about? I think this shows the area right behind JasonG’s photo ? We had no beta and just from looking at it it seemed too chossy and ~5th class for us and no rock gear. We dropped down towards Luna lake wrapped around about 6400, though in hindsight the line at about 6700probably would have gone with class 3 or less. the whole detour took about an hour

Very nice! Thank you. -
Trip: Mount Wow - Via Lake Allen Trip Date: 06/02/2025 Trip Report: Climbed Mount Wow with Dwayner today. Very enjoyable hike to Lake Allen up the very steep boot path, then mostly snow to the short ledge. Bare there and above. Flowers are starting to show everywhere the snow isn't hanging around. About 4000' gain/loss in only about 6 1/2 miles round trip. Steep. Gear Notes: Mountain boots still helpful. Ice axe too. Approach Notes: It's a boot path to the lake.

Lost Crampons-South Sister Summit- Devils Lake Trail
Michelle Sayer posted a topic in Lost and Found
I lost a pair of crampons in a red and black crampon bag on my descent from the summit of South Sister. The bag would be located somewhere between the Lewis Tarn Lake and Devils Lake Trailhead. I lost them sometime between 11:30am and 3:00pm on Sunday June 1, 2025. The crampons are rentals; they are black and neon green (I attached a picture of them on my shoes for reference). The bag they are in is orangish red and black (Black Diamond brand). The side zipper on my backpack came undone when I was glissading down the mountain. I didn't notice the zipper was undone until I returned to my car at the Devil's Lake Trailhead (so they could be anywhere along the trail). If you find them, I would really appreciate it, and I will offer a reward for their return. Please contact me if you have any information. Thanks! -

Great TR @Grant789! Please keep them coming this summer. And, everyone, this is a good example that sometimes the attempts are just as compelling for the eyes as the successful. Even if there was no summit (and no party), we still want to cry in our beers with you!
