I was going across the border two weeks ago and the Canadian guard informed us that we would be needing passports or birth certificates with photo ID. He let us in but informed us of the probable changes. Has anyone been up north lately and seen these changes?

I don't know what the rules are right now....but assume that you need a passport and bring it.

We, both in US and Canada, need to make it as simple and effecient as possible on the border guards in both directions so they can focus on the real dangers....and not worry about us dirtbag climbers.

Rafael and I passed over after the problems. He had a passport and License. I had a photo ID. Don't imagine much has changed. Go early morning or late night to avoid the crowds. Your car will most likely be searched.

Technically, you always need more than a drivers license (license doesn't mean anything - I have a WA license but I'm canadian), so I don't think any "freedoms" have changed. Although it's very rare that I've ever been asked for any ID.

Border crossings are asking for min. birth certificae and photo ID, or preferably passport, in both directions. I had to show a frickin' Canadian pasport to come back to frickin' Canada! They wouldn't let me just sing the anthem or answer some hockey trivia questions. what is this sad ol' whirl coming to?
