Why are a few so f'in talented, and what does it take?
Dr_Flash_Amazing
Ah, yes, the age-old question of what makes a hardman? That'd be item 4 on the diagram below.

Dr_Flash_Amazing
Sorry, Trask, but the hard truth here? The long and the short of it? Gotta stop whackin' it, dude. Bummer, huh?

layton
They don't idolize, they climb. It's not talent, it's determination. It's definitely not me posting this reply sitting on my ass in the library after driving all over creation looking for ice. Anyone is a hardman in my opinion who steps out into the unknown, who is probably scared, but tries anyways. .....or it's someone who sends sick shit! Yeah! P.s. A good mantra i've used is, "Calm Blue Ocean." Edited January 10, 2003 by michael_layton

catbirdseat
All these guys started climbing a very young age. They are all very single minded about it. If I started as young as they and devoted as much karma to it, I'd be a much better climber than I am. A little talent wouldn't hurt either. They have that too in abundance. Lambone
There are some pretty badass climber chicks out there too.
Bill_Simpkins
I think the more hard experiences you have with anything, the easier everything else is to overcome. You get bored with nice trails, guide books, people, solid rock, obvious decent gullies, heavy packs, bs. It's what drives anyone thats really good at what they do. Wanting more, always. Wanting to discover something for yourself. Not letting little obsticles distract you, and staying focused on the goal. There is no textbook on being burly.
