BootsandPants Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Heading to Iceland for two weeks; end of March/beginning of April. There's not a lot of beta out there for climbing and skiing objectives on the place, so even though it's a long shot I figured I'd ask here. Have any of you all been there and recommend any climbing or skiing (or both!) objectives? Cheers Quote
ivan Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 there was an alpinist years back about all the quality ice-climbing to be had there beware the white-walkers! extra points for spotting bjork while there Quote
Pete_H Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Definitely report back. I'd be interested in the skiing there. Probably not much help but theres a somewhat ambiguous article about skiing there in the recent issue of Skiing magazine. Quote
mmeyers Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 not much, but something (although, you probably found this already) http://lazyhclimbingclub.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/iceland-part-1/ http://lazyhclimbingclub.wordpress.com/2012/12/18/iceland-part-ii/ http://lazyhclimbingclub.wordpress.com/2013/01/29/return-of-the-viking-iceland-part-iii/ Quote
marcus Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Try this: UP-CLIMBING: ice-climbing in Iceland Kaldakinn is on the NE coast, pretty much as far from Reykjavik as you can get, but is supposed to have the highest concentration of accessible water ice...good luck! Quote
BootsandPants Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Thanks for the links guys. I hadn't seen that one Marcus; good stuff. Had some planning beers last night; going to be a rad trip. It's kind of nice not knowing what we'll find! beware the bjork Fixed that for you Ivan Quote
glassgowkiss Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 there were some guys from Canmore AB climbing there a while ago, maybe ask on Will Gadd's page? (http://www.gravsports-ice.com/icethreads/). Also Chris Geisler from Vancouver climbed there a few years back. Quote
