Can anyone identify this screw? I don't see any manufactures stamp or logo anywhere. It appears to be chrome plated and is internally tapered (larger diameter on hanger end) First time poster so let me know if the picture doesn't attach to this post

Thanks

Mike

It could be a Smileys, but this looks just like the screws my partner had whom I climbed with in the early 90s, before Smileys existed.

That there is a Black Diamond circa early 1990s.

Given your oh-so-certain but 100% INCORRECT response, your sig line is particularly appropriate.

Btw, Smiley produced some of the gear for BD in Taiwan in the early 90's. They had falling out, hence he went on his own. They pretty much were like BD screws, but the hanger accepted 2 carabiners. That is why some folks preferred Smileys to BD at the time. Of course BD kept improving their product, and who Smiley is in "where are they now" category.

I think Smiley's got bought out by Omega Pacific. OP made screws for a while that looked a lot like the old Smiley's screws.

Just to keep this history going... those older OPs had the worst plating I've ever seen. It would flake off and the roughness if left behind made the screws signif. more difficult to screw in. No amount of emery cloth polishing seemed to fix it. Then they switched to the gold hanger design, and the problem went away. This was about the time that folks were ditching their BD screws for the faster-starting Grivel 360s so the gold OPs went unloved. They left the market at $30 a piece which was a screaming good deal because they were every bit as good as the BDs. Better in fact that the BD Turbos.

And then along came the silver hanger BDs and the pendulum swung back.
