Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Today, 12/16, is the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, 1773. So, wish someone Happy Anniversary. Quote
sk Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Well happy aniversary GregW!!!! Perhaps I will now have a cup of coffe in celibration Quote
freeclimb9 Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 "Boston tea" is a favorite hot drink (just milk and sugar) my grandma used to serve, and now I make for my children. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Author Posted December 16, 2002 Is that a British thing or what is the origin? Interesting. Quote
sk Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 It makes sense... after the boston tea party they had to go with out right??? so they drank warm milk and sugar instead.... Quote
Dru Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Or you could drink anaerobic seawater like vampyroteuthis infernalis Quote
Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Author Posted December 16, 2002 No, there was a boycott. They CHOSE to go without in protest of the Tea Tax (and other taxes that were levied without representation). Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 huh? dru, what've YOU been drinking this morning? Quote
freeclimb9 Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Is that a British thing or what is the origin? Beats me. Grandma was 1/2 English, 1/2 German, and raised in western Alberta after migrating from Colorado. I think calling the drink "Boston tea" was to make it that much more appealing. One funny thing was that my mother didn't realize there was no tea in the drink until a few years ago. Quote
sk Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 (edited) okay, they CHOSE to go without. Either way they were not drinking tea... yet they still had to have tea time etc. as was proper at that time... they had to drink somrthing... warm milk and sugar would be better than nothing  noodge! iain Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 saw some cool footage of v. infernalis from ALVIN awhile back. scary-looking beast. Quote
Dru Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 They have a model hanging in the Royal BC Museum. Yoiks! For a peaceful little squid it sure looks like a bat-winged vampire all right. Whereas the snafflehound, looks harmless and innocent, but.................. Quote
Scott_J Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Just think if the Boston Tea Party was today. All the impact statements that would of been filled out after the "crime" took place. Plus, all the members of the Sons of Liberty that might not of taken part do to the impact on the creatures in the harbor. My god we might of ended up under English Rule after all and had all our 2nd amendment rights flushed out with the incoming tide. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Author Posted December 16, 2002 Bwahahaha!!! With no Greenpeace, the Sons of Liberty had no way of knowing what vital species of mollusk or algae that would be damaged due to their actions!!! What about a pre-crime Environmental Impact Assessment? How thoughtless and anti-environment!!! All in the name of freedom, liberty, and human rights. Huh, must have been pretty fucking important. Quote
Dru Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 FWIW the "Sons of Freedom" were the Kootenay area Doukhobor protest group/terrorist militia that protested by taking their clothes off and burning down buildings of those they disagreed with. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Author Posted December 16, 2002 Dru, your "Sons of Freedom" have no relation to the "Sons of Liberty" whose heroic actions set the stage for the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, and this great experiment in government that we call The United States of America. Quote
Dru Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 sounds like they were both renegades of funk just like the r.a.t.m/afrika bambatta song Quote
Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Author Posted December 16, 2002 No need to moon me, Dru-ski; just clarifying, and expounding, that the two groups of which we speak are not related. Â Â Quote
iain Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Greg your post reads like a war bonds poster or something.   or perhaps    Quote
Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Author Posted December 16, 2002 Well, Iain, I am pretty proud of what those people did and that I live in this country. You don't have to be proud, that's okay; that's your prerogative (insert Bobby Brown flashback here). Â My favorite was the banner: "The Man Who Relaxes is Helping The Axis" Quote
iain Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 No, I'm proud. Thanks for embedding that prerogative song into my brain again. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 16, 2002 Author Posted December 16, 2002 You're welcome. How 'bout some MC Hammer? Quote
iain Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 do whatever you like now, "it's my prerogative" is in there to stay. Quote
