Good2Go Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I'm heading to Bend this weekend and was planning to climb on Friday, but the forecast is saying partly cloudy, with a high of 37. Any Smith locals/regulars have an opinion whether this would be too cold for "enjoyable" climbing at Smith? Quote
ivan Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 it's never too cold to climb in the sunshine areas, though they are also obviously the most popular you'll be fine, but take yer puffy jacket Quote

shapp Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) We spent the night in the cave that forms the back of the Monkey's head on MF, in February 1997. Never too cold to aid Edited March 21, 2013 by shapp Quote
kevbone Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Too cold is in your head. I have hiked down the trail in the snow and still climbed all day. "There is no such thing as bad weather.....just bad clothing" Quote

Good2Go Posted March 23, 2013 Author Posted March 23, 2013 It was snowing occasionally, but still warm enough to remind me how crappy I am at climbing at Smith. Fun day though. Thanks all. Quote

bstach Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 60-70 degrees this weekend...too hot for lycra? Quote
fgw Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Nice rack. What route are you doing that needs two#5, two #4, two #3 .... probably doesn't need it if you have some OW skill...we don't so in our case we were happy with the huge rack for the short Off Tempo Quote
matt_warfield Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) I've heard of people that went through the knickers and wool sweaters era. You know who you are! Big difference between the sunny side and the gullies or the back side. Climbers spend a lot of time managing the temperature through planning as well as garb.
