jakedouglas Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Came upon this today. The debris was frozen so it was probably from yesterday. Debris under Chair also. Beware. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12238854/slide.png Quote
wayne Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 oh, that first warm day in the mountains.... Quote
alpinemorg Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 We came upon that Thursday AM while a friend was working on skills for his AvyIII exam. Suspected it came down in the night or Wednesday. Incredible size, lateral deposits, 'bulldozed' season snopack in the middle, and 4-6' deep moats/glide-cracks near the sides. It was a great lesson, and much interesting conversation. Would really have liked to have seen it go from a SAFE distance! Quote
Dane Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Good picture. In the grand scheme of things that aint even a big one for that basin. That size of avi happens a half dozen times in a normal winter and can almost/ or fill in that hole where the lake is next to your people in the picture. And that is just one of the MAJOR slide paths that end up at the lake. Just sayin Bad place to be in the wrong conditions. Quote
mattp Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 In 1974, on a family outing, two young girls ages 10 and 13 were buried in a large avalanche at Source Lake and were not recovered for several months. This is a dangerous spot because it is so easily reached yet in such a serious target zone. Quote
Ian in Seattle Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Is that from the north side of Bryant, or more the east side of Chair? Quote
Ian in Seattle Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Can you tell if that's more from the north face of Bryant Peak, or the east face of Chair? Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 It's now covered in 12+ inches of recent powder. Quote
alpinemorg Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Can you tell if that's more from the north face of Bryant Peak, or the east face of Chair? North Face of Bryant. It had filled in half the lake. Quote
