Nick_Bose Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Hey everyone, I'm looking to add some nostalgia to my rack. I'm looking for old SMC Camlocks, Forrest Titans and other old passive pro that people don't want anymore. Let me know what you got and how much you want for it. Quote
Kletterhund Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 PM on Forrest Titons, Arrowheads, and Foxheads (Including minty blue plastic ones!)... Quote
JosephH Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Titons and Foxheads are one thing, Camlocks are another - totally worthless and not worth carrying and they've been that way since the day they first went on sale. Quote
el jefe Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 listen to JosephH, he's an expert on passive-aggressive pro. Quote
wdietsch Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 .... Camlocks - totally worthless and not worth carrying and they've been that way since the day they first went on sale. Â Well said, one of the biggest POS ever made ... Althought they do make a decent paperweight Quote
Kletterhund Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Yes, Camlocks were/are a lousy passive option... My Forrest rack is mostly a conversation piece nowadays but they had their moment! Quote
JosephH Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Yeah, I bought three of them the day they came out and I was lucky to have survived them. Quote
Nick_Bose Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 No love for the SMC's huh? Given I've never tried using them outside of the Red River Gorge but the one's that friend had worked really well in SS. But then again I've never had the "pleasure" of falling on one either. Quote

Kletterhund Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Nice link. Â Youch! $50 for those guys! Â They are getting a bit scarce but man... #1 and #17 certainly... Quote
Teh Phuzzy Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Thats what Forest Titons look like eh? I think I have a whole set of them. I'll take a look when I get home tonight and send you a PM. Quote
JosephH Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 T-shaped aluminum extrusions lopped off and either slotted or drilled to take slings. Usually in various colors from very small to pretty good size. Â Quote
Kletterhund Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 That's them! Â I have a complete set up to #17... Â A mostly complete set of the earlier painted and anodized versions... Â I used mine often! Quote
Kletterhund Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 That's them! Â I have a complete set of the plain version (non-painted or anodized) up to #17... Â A mostly complete set of the earlier painted and anodized versions... Â I used mine often! Quote
JosephH Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I believe they only went to #9 or #10 and then the longer ones that are filled with holes all over were officially marketed as 'Chimney Chocks'. Â Â I consider Titons the forerunner of Tricams and they were particularly bomb back in the Gunks in horizontals. I kept winnowing down what I carried over the years and ended up with just a #8 sown onto a shoulder sling, but even that's been hanging up for a decade or more as they aren't terribly useful on basalt compared to say HB/DMM Alloy Offsets and cams. Quote
Kletterhund Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Yes, I believe all of the larger sizes with round holes were considered chimney chocks. Â However... there were several versions - I have #9's with both slots and holes... Holed #10's much smaller than slotted #10's... Â Left margin photo from their nut placement treatise shows slots only going to #8 - holes thereafter. So three versions at least I am guessing... Quote
