keenwesh
"Most counselors realize that college rankings are largely ineffective for creating a list of colleges that match a student’s interests, abilities and needs, because the student’s needs were not taken into consideration when the rankings were created." http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/08/opinion/when-college-rankings-are-inflated.html go somewhere where you won't get burned out, not somewhere that other people tell you is the best. Pete_H
I live in Maryland and we have plenty of jobs. I would expect to move back here after I do grad school. That's kind of why I want to go somewhere icy for 2 years. You want to live in Maryland? Seriously?
ScaredSilly
Everyone saying to get into a top 50 school- that sounds nice and all, but how many people can actually get into these schools? You would be surprised . Use the guide to help you decide, that should not be the only factor. As I said, check out the schools you may find that for what you want to do there are a number of schools that will work fine and they may not be top ranked. When I was looking at grad schools my choice was UW of UU. I chose Utah cause I figured that I would end up back in the PNW and wanted to see how the other half of the world lived. I am still in Oootah, it is a meshed up bassackwards state but I have some of the best woods in the world in which to play. Of course it took me 8 years to get through grad because of it though I really did not care (until they cut my funding off).

But for someone who enjoys outdoor / mountain related activities it seems like it would be pretty fucking far off the radar.

Mostly, my family lives here and I don't want to permanently live more than a car trip away. I think it's a good place to raise a family. Lots of different opportunities around here, if you ignore our lack of mountains and cold winters.
