hvydrt Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Is there anywhere near Paradise or Ashford that has public showers? Quote
DPS Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I can' think of any, but Enumclaw has a public swimming pool which has showers. I have found some gyms also offer showers for a nomimal fee, but once again, can't think of any that close to Ashland. Quote
sobo Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) I believe that there may be an RV park and/or a few cabin resorts between Ashland AshFORD and Skate Creek Road that would have showers. If you come across as a nice guy and offer to pay them something, I'd wager that the camp host would let you take a shower without having to camp/stay. Never asked, but just a thought... Fromage Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Â Ashland is about 400 miles from Mount Rainier. Quote
DPS Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) Ashland is about 400 miles from Mount Rainier.[/url] Â Good call, as I was writing Ashland it didn't sound quite right. I meant to write Ashford. I'm sure the Whittaker Cartel would be happy to sell you a shower for the low, low price of all your money. Â Good suggestion on the private campgrounds/cabins. Quite a few small outfits just outside the south entrance to the park that probably have showers.A quick Google search turned up quite a few: Â http://www.threebearslodge.net/ Â http://www.stormkingspa.com/ Â http://www.almostparadiselodging.com/ Â http://www.deepforestcabins.com/ Â http://www.rainierlodge.com/ Edited January 21, 2012 by DPS Quote
ScaredSilly Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Park your car facing the sun. Put a sun shower in the front dash. It will be nice warm once you return in afternoon. Strip down and go for it in the parking lot - tourist love that shit. Quote
CaleHoopes Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 (edited) By the way, this is one real bummer. In the old visitors center in the basement were showers which took a quarter. I remember coming off a particularly horrible day up to Muir and taking a 5 min shower for cheap (like $2). Then dining at Copper Creek feeling like a million bucks! Â P.S. LOL on the "Whittaker Cartel" Edited January 22, 2012 by CaleHoopes Quote
DPS Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 P.S. LOL on the "Whittaker Cartel" Thanks, I feel it appropriate given their long time monopoly on the mountain, their questionable dealings with the former park superindentent, and their various other enterprises including restaurants, gear stores, and motels. Plus Peter is a dick. Quote
sobo Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 They've got restaurants and motels now, too??? WTF??? Â Several years ago I went to one the public meetings that were held (I went to the one in Yakima) back when the Park was soliciting comment on opening up the climbing concession to more competition. A bunch of folks spoke up, and I, too, spouted off for a few minutes against the "Whittaker Cartel." You could see by the look on Peter's face that he wasn't liking the direction the meeting was going. After the meeting was over, Peter wouldn't even speak to me. But Big Lou came over, shook my hand, and told me that he appreciated the candor and logic with which I laid out my argument for, and support of, opening up the mountain to more guide services and competition. I like Big Lou (and Big Jim, too). Pete, not so much... Quote
DPS Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I may have written with a measure of hyperbole. They have the Whittaker Bunkhouse and a hamburger stand or something of that nature, in addition to the gear shop. I've only met Big Lou once and liked him, but like you said, Peter not so much. num1mc Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Peter is a dick. I've only met Big Lou once and liked him, but like you said, Peter not so much. The Whittakers, and in fact the entire staff of RMI are enthusiasts of Bernese Mountain dogs. When word of your smearing of both Peter Whittaker and poor little Sasha becomes public knowledge, your safety around any type of canine will clearly be in jeopardy.  Have fun, Alpo man. Best stay away from dog park  Quote

num1mc Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 WTF are you talking about?  OK Hiker Dan, I'm sure you conveniently forgot how mean you are to man's best friend.  http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1025864/Re_Lost_Bernese_Mountain_Dog_M#Post1025864  Dude, get a grip, you're melting down all over the internet. Seriously, you used to be one of the most level headed people here. Now you're going all Ascensionist   Thank god I'm not KirkW Quote
DPS Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 (edited) Ok, I get the reference to Sasha and Bernese Mountain Dogs. For the record, I like dogs. I have two dogs. I called out the owner for their violation of leash laws and exposure to a dangerous situation which lead to the unfortunate fall and rescue of Sasha. If you can't see the difference, well, you're pretty stupid. Â As for Peter, if he doesn't like being called a dick, he should stop acting like one. Edited January 22, 2012 by DPS Quote
num1mc Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 For the record, when you've taken as many showers with both dogs and Peter Whittaker as I have, only then can you call me out on either Quote

cms829 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 The showers in the old Jackson visitors center were the Shit! Same deal man...Nice hot shower after a couple days up high, and a incredible flat iron steak at the Copper Creek, topped off with a fresh slice of blueberry pie....ahhhh. Its what keeps me coming back year after year. Last year we drove town to town looking for showers....we came up empty. Quote
