There's no such thing as "middle-class" punk rock. It's an oxymoron. I think that's why a band like nofx is so blatantly ludicrous. They're a cheap and ridiculous knock-off, much like greenday or rancid or any other mtv pseudo-punk band.

Oh, PLEASE! You're not going to start in on how bands like Rancid and NOFX are sellouts or something, are you?

NOFX has been at this shit since the early 80s, and continues to rock. They have never done shit for MTV. Fat Mike's record label brings up tons of bands (granted, many of them are weak), and supports them whether they're making tons of money or not. They might sell out concerts, but they certainly haven't sold out their values.

Rancid turned down something like 1.5 million dollars from one of the major labels, and is made up of an ex-junkie/street punk squatter, and three working-class guys from union families. Hardly well-off suburbanites. Regardless, they've done well because they continue to innovate and rock, and not because they're turning out focus group-approved pop-punk and compromising their music to get rich. Hell, they have fans in and have been members of some of the bands you probably think are "real" punk (i.e. the Ramones, The Business, The UK Subs, MDC, US Bombs), so what does that tell you?
