ASeidel Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Hello, I'm looking for a partner to climb Mt. Hood this November, sometime between Nov. 13 and Nov. 18. The mountain was really important to my uncle, and it is my goal to climb it this year. Standard South Side route. I have alpine experience in Colorado, and a little in New Zealand. I have no experience in Pacific NW climbing. So even if you are looking for a casual ascent of the South Side and wouldn't mind sharing the experience with me, please let me know! Thanks for reading, Annaliese Quote
jfs1978 Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Not to rain on your parade...but the SS of Hood in November will probably suck. Quote
Adam Watts Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 If it was December 13 through the 18th I could Quote
ScaredSilly Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Not to rain on your parade...but the SS of Hood in November will probably suck. Â Last Nov I was there for a couple of days, had the be best bivy of my life as we stayed at the Lodge !!! The weather sucked but the sauna was great and the buffets were killer. Good thing worked paid for me to get there. Â That said if you are in the area - great. But I certainly would not specifically plan a trip to Hood as the weather can be very rough that time of year with very wet storms. You can also have killer weather as I did once in Oct. and no one on the mountain. Â Â Quote
luvshaker Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 For November to be good climb you need a weather window-as stated-but you also need a couple of storms to create the beginnings of a snowpack. Then, you need it to consolidate enough so it doesn't release. With out snow it will become more technical (less chance for a boot track) with more chance for rockfall. But, that may be what you are looking for? I've had good trips around the last week of November when it all came together. There can be plenty of snow by then. Good luck. Quote
eldiente Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I've had good times on Hood that time of year via the N.side. True, the weather will most likely suck, but if you get a break in the weather you can cruise right up there without having to deal with heavy snow and all that. Â Looking up Cooper Spur Nov 12th. Swedish BB Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Adam, Â I'm looking to do some climbing and/or ski mountaineering the week you mentioned (or anytime between then and new years). Ideally ice/alpine. Just moved out here from Colorado and Alaska. Did you have anything in mind for that week? Quote
luvshaker Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Looks like the snow has "arrived"!!! Â Could be a good fall on the North Face with some clear weather. Quote
ASeidel Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Do you have any thoughts on the North Face in the same time frame? Quote
ColinB Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Do you have any thoughts on the North Face in the same time frame? Â I can't read the weather windows of the future, but last year things were icy on Hood around the 1st of November. Its looking like we're getting hammered for the next week with weather, so if there's a weather window things will likely be in condition in a couple weeks. Quote
summitchaserCJB Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I made it up to 10,200 on Hood in November once. Would have probably summited if it were less foggy. Quote
LonelySummit Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 There is a TR up in the Oregon Cascades forum from a week ago. It was a conditioning hike, but has some photos of the SS. Â I'll be posting a TR on Sunday night. Attempting the gates. Good luck on your November trip! Quote
