patrick69 Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 I barely ever check this site so if there are questions or whatever email me at: patrick_b_odonnell@yahoo.com Cheers, -patrick Quote
Wakaranai Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Thanks for the topo. Looking forward to getting out there again. We climbed dry rock in the rain on our last visit. Nice routes and nice gniess. Quote
orion_sonya Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Newhalem has plenty of bolts - it is definitely a sport crag. This is particularly true on the legacy routes that primarily take up real estate on the first 50 ft or so of the crag. The newer pitches and route extensions are generally bolted a little more sparingly, but still sport climbing. The recent development by Patrick, James, Benjit, Ryan, and others has really bumped the route quality up a level at the crag IMO. Plus they along with Jonah and the access fund have done a good job of coordinating with the Park Service to make sure we continue to have access and develop the area responsibly. If you don't like sport climbing, you won't like it there. If you like climbing steep granitic clip ups go get some. Cinnamon Groove is one of the best 5.12s around... Quote
bigwallben Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Sport climbing is SO weak, gutless...and I really don't know why someone would ever want to do it. Quote
kukuzka1 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Is ryan wall named after ryan the route developer? Quote
wayne Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Nice work all of you!> Jonah is a bud of mine, glad to hear he could help. Thanks for posting it. What a sick area! Quote
Off_White Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'd assume Ryan's Wall is in honor of Ryan Triplett who died in an unknown and unwitnessed accident while soloing at Goat Wall in Mazama in 2008. Thread here: link Patrick, thanks for posting the topo here in spite of the "sport climbing is neither" crowd. Stout looking crag. Quote
kukuzka1 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 wow, thats a bummer . speaking of the unfortunate act of falling does anyone know how it happend to paul boving on thin fingers? also to john stoddard? Quote
